I must not have lurked long enough to get in on what's probably an inside joke. Search function isn't helpful on it, either.

Knowing that I'm probably opening a can of worms, or opening a door to more inside jokes, can I get at least one straight answer? (I know how sideways these threads can get...)

Lol. Personally, I dislike the term.....

A Stoogie is another name for a DIY mechanic, requirements are that you live in California. :)

All kidding aside, I dislike the term because it implied the same as "Calculus for dummies"

The guys that work on these cars (successfully) are not dummies or Stoogies.

The term came from a bunch of pretty skilled owners of 348's and 355's in SoCal who would get together and work on people's cars for maintenance, repairs and upgrades. Stoogeism became a movement as more converts were indoctrinated. I myself became a Stooge shortly after acquiring my 348SS when Ernie, Bruce, Goth and FBB made me fix my own car and had me working on theirs. These 4 are the original Stooges and, in the early days, if you ever witnessed their antics while figuring stuff out, the Stooge title was pretty obvious.

These days, if you are into working on your own 348 or 355, and have had to cobble some repair together not using Ferrari yellow box parts, you are definitely a Stooge. Wear the title proudly fellow Stooges! :D

My opinion is A stooge isthe highest title and compliment one can attain in fchat for a diy mechanic. The stooges i have met have all contributed to many evryday solutions to our cars that we all benifit from.

Some examples i have personally used is alternator rebuilds, fan swaps, slowdown light fixes and understanding the systems, quick release engine guards, original shaped keys by goth are just the tip of the iceburg.

You guys were working in a congested alley, literally under shade trees, over open sewer grates? And I thought I had it bad with my single car garage and half-gravel driveway!

You might be a Stooge...... if you used a rubber band to hold bearings in place.

    Yup pretty much.

It all started way back when I was at fatbillybob's house while he was helping me rebuild my gearbox. The fatman and I would even get into wrestling matches, no joke. Bruce would come over to heckle and egg us on. It was a pretty funny sight. After a while, when I would head over to Chubba's house, I would ask if it would be the three of us "Stooges" wrenching on the gearbox. That is how it got started. It has since evolved into any Ferrari owner that works on their car themselves.

    Ah the good ol' days.

Coolest thing about the Stooges is it became 1st the 348 Brotherhood and then just the Brotherhood as Goth, a 355 owner, brought the 355 guys in. Now we are a social club that breaks stuff, fixes stuff, eats stuff, drinks stuff (with alcohol), and races stuff when we aren't breaking, fixing, eating, or drinking. It is good to be a stooge.
