Thought they were pretty disappointing. Half the cars didn't go, the ones that did, did below min estimates Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mecum is like a used car dealer --- they are not selective at all in terms of which cars they will take, they just want you to consign the car to them ----- no matter what your expectations of pricing! Hence, many unrealistic reserves. That is why there are so many "bid goes on" - (BGO) ----- and notice how there are a lot of BGO's with pretty high prices??? Like the Daytona with a BGO of 950k and a BBi with a BGO of 330k --- a realistic seller in todays market would hit those bids all day long. And I bet their reserve was just one more bid above the BGO level. So I wonder how many "chandeliers" are in the room bidding Mecum cars up to right below the already unrealistic reserve, and then hoping some "dumb money" comes out of the wood work
Focus on the cars that sold. 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta Sold at $620k The 85 512 BBi finally did sell at $330k The Daytona at $950k was race prepared and race at the 4 hour Lemans event in 71, if that makes any difference. Here is the history of the car. 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Competizione, Priced at 1.425M 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4C.prv for sale: Anamera Priced at $2.295M The last F355, 99 spider Sold at $40k. A total of 23 of the car are listed as sold. That's just over 50% of the Ferraris consigned. So we have 4 F355 spider that went for $125k (Fiorano), $82.5k, $73k and $40k. Frankly I don't know why people get their panties up in a bunch over Mecum. It's the car and what you pay for it that matters and makes the market. Not where you buy it. Can you imaging that poor guy who paid $3.4M for a La Ferrari and the car now has the stigma of being sold at Mecum? Who the heII would want it now? It's got me cum all over it.
Makes all the difference in the world if the Daytona is a comp car. I know that silver comp car, just earlier in the thread the 950 was posted for the Daytona and I didn't realize it was that car. However, I still stand by my views on Mecum -- it is a different business model than the other auction houses and thus it tends to attract cars that would never get accepted at other auction houses. That being said, Mecum was really the first house to really jump on the train of the modern super cars, so I will withhold my judgement on that sector. But any thing vintage I stand by what I previous said. Just google "Dino 00468" as that was a car Mecum sold. I have personal experience with this car and if anyone does their research on that car your jaws would drop knowing that they would represent such a car!!
And I agree with john --- I too only focus on the cars that sold ---- Bid Goes on # is meaningless, which is the point I was trying to make.
I don't think that the 355 Fiorano Spider got sold. Bidding stopped at 125.000 $ and still has "bidding goes on" on it.
I saw a 458 go for over $600k yesterday. What was so special about that car? If I recall the owner had to drop the reserve to get it sold to like $630 or something. Speciale Apreta yellow if I am remembering
87 308 GTB Sold at $52.5k They don't make that car, unless it is a 1987 328 GTB. If it is, then that is a very good buy.
