So I finally got the qoute for the insurance on my car. Its $1500 every 6 months! That bites...I know it can be had cheaper. I am 39 and no accidents/tickets and I am the only driver. Any leads? Thanks in advance
Try Hagerty, that's who I use on my CS and my coverage is cheaper than that. I'm 29 and while my record is good its not perfect.
$1500 every six months isn't really that bad. I've seen a lot worse. This pops up all the time and a lot of people including myself say "state farm". I pay $1200 every 6 months for full coverage for an 08 F430 spider in Vegas (a high insurance rate area). It was $1100 when the car was in LA. Another tip: Bundle. Put all your insurance (cars, home, etc) at one place and discounts can help your situation. Lastly, increase your deductible. If you smash it, it's going to be expensive anyway. You'll always be well above the deductible. It will cost you then but it will save you if you don't crash.
Try Travelers. I did the bundle thing with my homeowners and 3 cars and with a clean record for an F430 with a 1000 deductible. It was about 1200 per year.
If you can live with the limited driving aspect of their policy - 3k per year roughly - I would think its a no brainer! doesn't hurt to get a quote ...
I use allstate for everything (homes, boat, cars, umbrella, etc) and they wanted $2600 a year for actual replacement cost (which sounds good but is not) coverage for my CS. I ended up with Haggarty with the same levels/deductables for $2500. But, importantly its guaranteed value for the amount I deemed right. It was pretty hard to get it, and I had to answer lots of questions and I think I only got it because I live on my own and have three cars...which importantly made the Ferrari the least used one for "fun driving" mostly. Very nice person helped me out there and I'm told its good coverage. Still...I'm at $5000 per year for my three cars (2 on allstate, 1 on Haggarty). 44 years old. No tickets or accidents. Just enough liability to get to the required levels to work with my umbrella. $1000 deductables. Cars are in Scottsdale. Don't commute to work or school so all pleasure/errands driving. I didn't shop with anyone else. Someday I may move all of my allstate stuff to Chubb or Firemans Fund for other reasons...if I do I will see what they want for exotics too...
I am curious...what is the deductible you have on your car? Here in the great white north, it is quite high. On my f430, it is $5K. I don't mean to hijack this thread.
When I spoke to Haggarty yesterday, I had them quote me $5000 and $1000 (they also offer $2500) deductibles. The premium was $2100 per year with $5k deduct and $2500 per year with $1k deduct. So, $400 less per year. That equates to 10 years of premium savings ($400x10=$4000) to equal the increased out of pocket of just one claim ($5000 - $1000 = $4000). Thus I went with the $1000 deductable and paid $400 more per year (figuring if I have even one claim in 10 years (!) I am better off with the lower deductible).
I'm having them change my deductible and also double check my limits vs what my umbrella needs as I have the max coverage on the policy. Now way I can only drive 3k a year, heck I've put 800 miles on her this month lol
I don't actually have one yet, but finding out what insurance will be was part of my pre-purchase planning. I feel a little dumb that I didn't actually ask what it would cost, just what the difference would be, They told me that a 1999 360 modena would be $100 less per 6 months than my 2005 Elise. A 2001 360 would be $50 more. The old lady pays all the bills, and I forget what we're paying now. I think it's around $600 per 6 months with Allstate.
State Farm was the cheapest for the Ferrari in TX too ($1K every 6 months), but it's not for my other cars. Century21 was the cheapest before my teen daughter had a license, and became the most expensive afterwards (everything else stayed the same). Then GEICO became the best option. Allstate is known to be one of the cheapest with tickets, but with a perfect record, it's the second worst in my case. Every time something changes, you need to check quotes all over again. Anyway, the problem with a high premium might be you're 'bundling' the Ferrari with your other cars and drivers, and if there's a teenager in there (or a wife with a bad record), it's going to kill you. Better to put it in a separate policy. You have to be nuts to let a teenager drive alone in a Ferrari, but many of you think otherwise . If that's not your case, then insure it separately with only you as the driver. You can always let others drive with you on the passenger seat and they'd be covered by most insurance companies (check). And if you have the bad record, then you're screwed < he he>. Good luck.
Check with Chartis. It is re Barrett Jackson endorsed insurance. Like I said I pay $500 ayear for my 01 360.
In my experience it is cheaper getting quotes online. Some of the bigger companies offer discounts when ordering online, because it is less work for them. But to be safe you could compare quotes online, pick the best offer and try a local agency to see if they can match it or do better.
Thanks. I figured it was both literally not safe, and figuratively NSFW for a sales guy. Maybe a little obscene.
I am with Allstate. I have totaled one Ferrari. The first offer they made on the car was quite a bit more than what I paid for the car. I don't know who is informing you about value but Allstate basically called the 2 most local Ferrari dealers and asked what my car was worth. I could have contested and asked for more which my agent recommended. I did not. I paid $120 a month until the accident. Now I am on my second go around with a new Ferrari and it costs $140 a month to insure. I am 31 with 2 at fault accidents on my record. I would say Allstate is pretty good company you just have to have a perfect record to get in with them. I like everyone else have multiple vehicles and a home insured with them as well. My deductible is at $1000...
