I took on a project a few weeks ago to restore some badly spotted and hazed headlights on a 430 Scud. I have done this to many 360's and 550's before and felt up for a challenge. I have read about how common this is on these cars and that it is caused by mold growing inside the lens or from gasses from the HID lights etc...
The 430 lights are extremely difficult to seperate without damaging anything, much more so than the 360 lights. I spent almost 2 days carefully seperating the lens from the housings without breaking anything or cutting into housings. Once I was able to get the lens off I was expecting a to find a film that would wash off with soap and warm water, that was not the case. These lights had been getting the temporary heat gun trick done to them which I think in the long run just bakes the crap inside the lens on and makes it harder to get off.
There is a coating inside the light, possibly an anti fog coating, washing the lens took off very little of the spotting and haze that was etched into the hard coating, so the only way to make it clear again would be to remove the inside coating from the plastic lens carefully and polish the lens. I would not reccommend this as a DIY project, one slip of a sharp tool or a little to much pressure will turn a rather expensive headlight into a door stop. I took some pics of the process, I figured the Scud owners would be interested...

Is the general belief that if you use your headlamps all the time, you won't get the hazing?

Don't know the answer to that, but I can tell you that mine are perfectly clear and the headlamps are the DRL for Canadian cars so my lights are on anytime the car is running.

I plan to leave mine looking like crap as a protest to show the world that Ferrari won't stand behind one of their most expensive cars. They offered to replace my headlights at a ridiculous cost. However they never changed the OEM supplier so no doubt I would face the same problem in a few years. It's A factory flaw that should be addressed by the factory recalling them. Let the negative advertising speak volumes. Too bad because I love my Scud. Jon in Delaware
