Lol re: sun. I'm looking at a car and diffuser is discolored. Car has heated seats, hence my salt question if it could do that or if it's normally something else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes and no? Heat will make things fade, and the cats and muffler are close. But I'm not sure if the diffuser color fading is common, and if the heat is so intense there are a lot of components closer to the exhaust that will definitely have it worse, such as the air box, axle, and F1 actuator etc
"A diffuser, in an automotive context, is a shaped section of the car underbody which improves the car's aerodynamic properties by enhancing the transition between the high-velocity airflow underneath the car and the much slower freestream airflow of the ambient atmosphere." Quote from wikipedia
Fading could be a result of a crappy fiberglass or plastic formulation, exposure to heat which degrades its molecular structure, and exposure to UV from the sun.
I have requested pics - seller was up front with it, just waiting to see photos and figure out if it's a bigger issue, or, a simple refinish / replace diffuser issue.
The body of the diffuser is very matte compared to the fin which is more glossy, could perhaps be the kind of cleaning materials used? Plus I dont think all of them came black, I've seen some are gray, gloss black, glossy gray etc. It's something I've never figured out either
Thanks guys Cosmetic = ok If it was caused by something else, like driving in slush all winter... or heat...
Is this a Toronto/Canadian province car? I wouldn't be too concerned. PPI should reveal (if any) misuse. You can repaint the diffuser. A good product is Mothers Back to Black.
It's weird, mine was faded just like Jason's. I needed a fiberglass repair as well(looked like someone had backed into a high curb and damaged the fins at the bottom). I had it repaired and repainted and it came out well. Apparently there are shops that have a computer that can match the paint. I'm back in business. Jason just repaint it.
I'm with Turbotuner - it looks like the diffuser is primed and unpainted. I honestly don't think it is faded.
