So driving home in my 430 Spider (18,000 miles) and a small whining noise emits from the engine, shortly afterwards F1 Gearbox warning light comes on, car reverts to auto shift mode only and then shortly afterwards car deselects to neutral and engine dies and wont restart. So F1 pump is first thought or could this already be the clutch ???

    any fluid on the ground?

what is the level in the f1 reservoir?

does the pump run when you open your door?

This will probably require investigation by a mechanic w/ Ferrari scan tools

My hazardous guess is that the F1 pump is constantly running due to the relay contacts welded shut.

Get it towed or you will destroy the clutch.

The cheaper pump is not suitable for the F430. It would work, but not for long. The later upgraded type should be used,

    Sorry to be a pain.

But the pump burning out, is normally a symptom of a deeper problem.
Something made the pump run for too long and too often.

If you don't find out now, you will be buying another pump very soon (ask me how I know that one - on second thoughts don't ask me, the memory of it still hurts).
