I must say that the sound on a 360 modena on low revs is very... humble ? However at +7k rpm the sound is amazing, aspecially when you drive with your windows down. Me and my friend (360 spider) took a 3 hour drive this sunday and passed each other at the highway several times at +7k rpm up to max rev. The sound from the other car is unbeliveble ! it´s like getting a screaming chainsaw being put right a your ears. No way I knew my car sounded that evil when passing other cars =) Strangeley enough he´s car sounded "fatter" when standing still, both having standard systems.
Just disconnect the electrical connector to the vacuum switches. You will have that loud sound all the time even at the low RPM. A 5 sec job. It can be undone anytime by just plugging the connector back.
Sports Exhaust is one of the best options for the 360. IMO it sounds better than the F430. Speaking of which, has anyone seen the sports exhaust option on the F430?
I'm not aware of a factory "sports exhaust" option on the 360, and I asked about one on the 430 when I ordered my car and was told there was not one. Basically, they went with a sport exhaust stock on the 430, the muffler is about the size of a Tubi or Capristo, and when the exhaust valve opens the muffler is bypassed completely anyway. On the 360, most owners decide between Tubi and Capristo. Gary
I wasn't aware that there wasn't a factory sports exhaust option. I like the tubi on the 360 and the capristo on the F430. Defenitely not stock, especially for the F430.
With the engine lid opened, you remove both inner valance panels ( a couple of allen screws) just on either side of the exhaust area, and as you look down to the exhaust pipes left and right side, you will see the by-pass valves,(marked item 37 in the attached diagram) with an electrical cable connected by means of push on connector. Simply pull off both connectors, and tie back out of the way, so that they can't make contact with hot exhaust pipes. You can probably access them from below without removing the panels, but if you wish to secure them out of harms way it's probably best to take the slightly longer route. A nifty guy could easily make the sytem switchable from the cockpit, with some length of cable, a few connectors, and a switch mounted in a discreet position. Image Unavailable, Please Login
"is it safe to do such a thing?" I have heard that same question from some who were watching a porn movie!!!
totally safe. Ferrari only uses the bybass to get by sound regs, it otherwise has no purpose but to mask the wonderful sound that will emit from a Ferrari V8. Unplug away (or go with a Tubi for even better results, no bybass valve at all on a Tubi).
Safe to unplug the electrical.... Unplugging the vac-line while NOT capping-off the line could result in sucking-in some dirty air which could make it's way into the intake manifolds. Not advised. My plan is to put some relays inline with the electrical connections and use a remote switch to alter the setting. Shouldn't be hard to do.
Really? I did it and it made a massive difference. Thing is the sound comes from the exhaust so if you are standing over the engine bay you can't really tell the difference... stand back a few steps and there you go! I just yesterday made a switch system, but fitted the switches in the engine bay... about an hour's work and saves removing the covers to access the valves... Key thing is to waterproof the wires. Note, if you do remove the electrical plugs make sure you seal them with good quality tape to prevent water getting in. The best bit is the extremely loud popping noise... lovely
Does the CS use the same system? I want to keep the valve SHUT on a track with a strict sound limit. It would be great to rig up a circuit to shut the valve from the driver's seat. I asked this question many times in different threads but never got an answer.
Capristo has a remote system that allows the driver to manually open and close the valves on a 430 from a remote key fob. I just ordered a system from them last week and its due in by the end of this week for install. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
I am thinking about getting one of these too. My wife always complains when I go through tunnels in second with a stock exhaust. So it would be good to ahve the option of loud or superloud. Let me know how you get on or if anyone else has this capristo for a 360 please let me know.
as compared to a 430 or a 348/355 the 360 is a much much more humble toned car for sure under 6000 rpm when the variable cam timing kicks in, this is no matter what you do, even a *Sports* exhaust like Larini, Tubi etc., the tone will be more sedate vs the others.
Tubi, test pipes is the best combo in my opinion. Not that I'm biased http://youtube.com/watch?v=EenPvmXEdVM http://youtube.com/watch?v=4uxcUdbt-XA&feature=related
My 2004 360 Spider came with a factory "Ferrari Racing Exhaust", about the size of the Tubi...is that the same as the sports exhaust??
Need to try this... Now I'm excited - who's going to sleep tonight. Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to wire in switches - will upload pics once done.
