I was recently asked if I had any information on ZFFEW58A360146563. I didn't have much, just an eBay listing back in September, 2009 ...until now.

Upon commissioning an inspection, the potential buyer discovered extensive accident damage that was never disclosed, and is not on the CarFax report. The car was located at Mercedes of Chandler and is now at a Porsche dealer (also in Phoenix). Both dealers are Penske dealers. I know for a fact that if Roger Penske knew about this, he'd be furious.

Despite the evidence unearthed by the inspection, Chandler feigned ignorance, and when the potential buyer backed off, the car went Ruhr back up on eBay as being accident-free. Now it's on eBay through the Porsche dealer, again touting a clean CarFax report.

Yes; it's an '06 F1 Berlinetta, red with black leather, sport seats, shields, Challenge wheels and carbon ceramic brakes. It was here, but I don't know how long that will be up.

That's really sleazy. They must have a legal obligation to disclose known facts like that.

I have only been looking for F-cars for a few months and have already run up against this 3x. I'll stop there before I go into rant mode. There IS a reason used car dealers have that generic reputation...it didn't come out of thin air (yes, I'm sure there are exceptions.).

guys, this is the same dealership that was giving fastviper such a hard time on cars he was asking to have a ppi done on prior purchase.....

seems to me those guys are not running an honest operation.

btw, penske just loans them his name and has no direct involvement.

Have any links/info to support this? Everything I know about the North Scottsdale Penske dealerships in question here is different than this.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Porsche North Scottsdale is owned by Penske Automotive Group (PAG) a publicly traded company which is the second largest automotive retailer headquartered in the U.S. as measured by total revenue. As of December 31, 2010, PAG operated 323 retail automotive franchises, of which 172 franchises are located in the U.S. and 151 franchises are located outside of the U.S.

Roger S. Penske is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Penske Automotive Group and is the largest shareholder, currently having beneficial ownership and voting control of 51.5% of the outstanding shares.

I have met Mr. Penske in the service department of our local Ferrari dealership where he asked for a few minutes of my time to inquire about the level of service I received from the Ferrari Sales and Service teams. He specifically asked, "Why have you chosen to do business with us?" The management of the dealerships quake when they know he is coming to town. Everything MUST be perfect when he walks the facility or there will be Hell. To NNO's point, "I know for a fact that if Roger Penske knew about this, he'd be furious."

Yes, exactly..except I didn't have the time to write it out. I know he frequents the North Scottsdale dealers including the Porsche dealer in question.

Looks like they have switched the CarFax to AutoCheck.
Anyone with an inside connection to the Penske Corporate offices should send them this info.
This could get pretty expensive for someone.
Makes you wonder what the real history is. Looks like it's been owned by dealers more than private parties. Interesting.

I just looked at this car today! Naturally, no one helped me. I wasn't so impressed with the external appearance of the car (there were a number of scratches, etc.).

The asking price is $139k right now (down from $149 last week). I'll stay far away from this -- thank you for the information.

No excuse. He's still responsible, his name, and reputation are on the dealership and he is being paid for this.

Interesting that this same car comes up as "certified pre-owned" on the Ferrari factory website as well. Seriously?

I'm not naive. I understand that first and foremost car dealers are in business to move cars at a profit. However I've done business at the AZ based Penske dealers many, many times and I am a client at Scottsdale Ferrari for service. While I've disagreed from time to time with decisions various managers have made in the course my dealings with the entire Penske group here in AZ, I've never seen anything as egregious as this. In fact, in the one case that I did have a very serious problem, a service issue with a new Land Rover, upper management at Penske stepped in and made it right.

So do we assume that Scottsdale Ferrari completely misrepresented this car to FNA as well just to get it "certified"? While I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the OP (I have read and enjoyed many of his posts) nor the truthfulness of the PPI story he relates, This whole situation seems hard to swallow.

Or maybe CPO from Ferrari just doesn't indicate any real diligence into the background of the car? The dealer says they inspected it, pays a fee and that's that?

    Hmmmm

Their have been numerous posts on this car. I myself considered the car 6 months ago and passed due to the red flags others knew of the car. Here is my question, how the hell does the car get CPO'd and Ferrari approved with extensive damage repair?????
