430 sticky door handles to MAcarbon

Ahhh.....sticky is always a good excuse to shop @ MaCarbon. Now, is your center console sticky too? What about the aircon vents, steering wheel, exterior door handles, side skirts, diffuser....

Silly question -- keep hearing about "sticky" buttons and handles. What does that refer to -- buttons/handles that get stuck and don't move? Or does the material somehow become sticky?

Just got an F430 this past Sunday and going to pick it up tomorrow.

So curious what to look out for in this regard.

Definitely like the carbon though.

For the question on sticky parts, the black soft-touch paint Ferrari uses on their plastic trim turns sticky over time. Do a search and you'll find more threads than you can count!

The accursed sticky button problem has started on my 07. It was delivered in Jan 08! Only four years!

Congrats on your 430,

Yes the rubberized coating applied to the plastic parts becomes sticky with age, chemical cleaners/protectors, high heat, humidy etc etc. Just Be careful with your new ride or just upgrade to carbon bits early.

Good call. Always remember to tell the partner (if you don't have one or yours don't give a damn, lucky you), its not about aesthetics that lead to unncesessary expenditure. Its about a necessary change as the factory part is "FAILING".

how much? looks fantastic i think I may have to start swapping out all of my sticky components with carbon. seems more economical over sending them in to sticky no more to have them refinished.

 

Carbon Fiber parts are much more expensive than having them refinished. Just the carbon fiber material alone is $$$. Comes down to a matter of taste and which you prefer....

 

I don't see how refinishing a piece in CF could be anywhere near as inexpensive as having Robbie refinish them.

 

We charge a bit more than Robbie.

There is, ummm, a bit more labor involved. We have to get the sticky stuff off, then do the CF work. Carbon, resin, and lacquer is more expensive than paint. And we still have to paint as well!

Next up is since our CF process takes about three weeks, we send the completed CF parts out to you. The customer then swaps the parts and send back their old, sticky parts. So no down-time for your car. This investment in parts is substantial ( I think we've invested around $4K in the six sets of handles we have) and contributes to the cost. And you have to stock for both the 360 and the 430 since they are different handles! You can get some used parts on eBay but we wind up buying most new direct from Ferrari. With our discount, a new part is often the same price as what the US based salvage yards want for theirs.

Anyway, we've worked with Robbie on lots of projects. We've sent parts to him as well as customers. When a customer calls us, we always discuss the options and what solution will work the best for him. If its refinishing we'll either coordinate with Robbie or tell the customer to call him.

Last, thanks to Ron for posting those pics. But he did use a flash to take the first ones of the parts installed... so it looks a bit 'plasticky'! It looks even better in person.

 

I can vouch for that John. MaCarbon's carbon weave and finishing is second to none. I have the Scuderia footwell sensor cover and the finish is far better than any I have ever seen.
