Can anybody point me towards a step-by-step procedure for replacing the brake switch? My F1 transmission warning light has come on a couple of times, and it has been diagnosed as a faulty brake switch, but because my mechanic's two hours away I figure I'll just change the switch by myself.

Actually, a pointer towards the correct page of the parts diagram would be useful -- at least I'd know where the switch is located and which part to order.

Lastly, is it a straight replacement, or is there an adjustment that's required? I asked this because the F1 transmission appears to be so dependent upon so many sensors, and I figure it's unlikely to be a straight swap knowing my luck!! Please tell me this doesn't require an SD2!!!!!

Get a tortch and look up under the dash, it's on the brake pedal, white in colour with a harness clipped to the front. Simple way to check it is to check your brake lights are working. If they are, then it's not that, but also check the lights aren't flickering when driving, ( grab the pedal and shake it about while you have someone stood round the back watching the lights) if they Do it'll cause f1 issues. I have to say though, brake switch issues aren't common..

Try using a flashlight under the dash, a torch is very risky and can start a fire! LOL,
Sorry I had to do that. I know I'm just being a malaka.
    Otherwise great advice!

you should search this - "brake switch".

I think these switches are picky. As the thread mentions, I dont think its a part that fails all that much, but even slighty mis-aligned will cause the CEL light to come on (and off). You may want to see if adjustment is in order before you go and replace.

Thanks, I'll search as suggested. I did search before posting but probably used the wrong key words. I'm perfectly happy to remove and clean the existing switch, but if it requires an SD2 to adjust I might be better to leave it alone for now.

please note that gap between the brake switch pin and where it touches the brake pedal. Improper adjustment caused my F1 lamp to light when swapping out the brake booster unit.

I've managed to get my hands on the correct tech info (thanks Newman). The gap's supposed to be 8mm -- I'll check it this week, but will remove the switch first and give it a bit of a clean.

Am I correct in saying that the adjustment is achieved by bending the support bracket? I can't see that there's any kind of screw thread on the switch that allows the 8mm gap to be set.

The bit that touches the pedal has a "ratchet" in it. Push the pedal down with one hand and with the other gently pull the part of the switch that touches the pedal. It will click as it comes forward...
