Ive had 2 355's and now ready to move up to either a 16m or a used 458

Is there really that much of a difference, I just test drove a 2013 California in Ferrari SF and it was quite fast and nimble. Has anyone driven either or both of these for any significant time who could clue me in, thanks...

Pretty sure I will never get the chance to drive a 458

Is the 458 that much better of a car than the 16M
Im sure the shifting is way faster, hard to belive the handling is greater
Ive never had the time to track my cars due to time issues

Why wont you have the chance to drive a 458? Im sure your local dealer would let you test drive it once they have determined you are not a tire kicker.

Had a chance to drive a Scuderia (not 16M) and a 458. Scud is a road legal racer car - absolutely amazing. Sounds phenomenal. Steering weight and grip on a track were perfect. Scud's superfast F1 transmission is the best I have ever experienced. Actually preferred it more than the 458 which is saying a lot!

I drove the 458 in vegas on the exotics racing track. it was a birthday gift from my girlfriend, she knew it was my dream to have this car for 7 laps and she made it come true.
I can tell you it is beyond anything. I own my 3rd Ferrari now, have driven a lot of good sports cars over the years and I knew the 458 was gonna be amazing but I can tell you it was more than that, it just is completely on another level. it blew my mind. the feel, the steering, the sound, the shifting is just stupid, I don't know how else to describe it. and on top of that you can also cruise the boulevard at night or the beach during the day comfy too. best most advanced all around sports car in the world.

16m is a cool classic car in comparison with the 458 spider

This is how i felt after a test drive. Ended up owning a scud. Even after almost a year i am amazed by the car.

I have a Cali and a scud and have driven the 458 many times and I would have to say 16m all the way!!! 458 is awesome but just doesn't have the magical feel that the scud does!

If you want a special car, get a 16M.

Is it 16m vs 458 spider? If not its an easy choice whether or not you want a convertible. Biggest difference is going to be trans and ride quality. Is the car for street or track primarily?

Plenty of companies have these cars for rent on street and track. Test them out back to back

    I have not driven a 16M.

    My assumptions are:
the 458 will ride smoother (magnetic shocks)
The 458 will have better clearance over bumps and dips.
The 458 has more horsepower. More torque. 9 grand red-line.
the 458 will have better traction...the car calibrates the road and sets up the car.
the 458 will stop faster. Better/bigger brakes.
the 458 has better aerodynamics. slips thru the air better.
the 458 hardtop is one of the seven wonders of the world. hehe
the 16M has a rawer feel...more connected to the driver.
Over the LONG TERM the 16M will hold its value better. Fewer made.

So you picks your poison and you takes your choice.

    Good luck.
And may the horse be with you.

Darn. So far no clear winner imo. I guess my dreaming of which one I would prefer to own will have to wait...

Though I do like reading about each car's attributes.

Just got done replacing my door handle mechanism and the throttle cable broke, also had to replace the muffler bolts.

LATEST... Car began riding real rough from the front end, its could be a wheel bearing thats gone, so back to the shop it will go...

Hopefully will not have major issues with the 16M

16M All day long. No question.

There will be 458's on every street corner in a few more months. Boring.

I also drove the 458 in vegas on the track. Easily the most impressive car I have ever driven. Also drove the Lambo superlegga and I have a 360 though never tracked that car. I have no doubt that the 16m is an animal but the 458 is in a class all its own. Go to exotics in Vegas they have a 430 scud and the 458. Great excuse to go to vegas if nothing else.

The Cali is chalk and cheese compared to a 16m. Beyond having a horsey and a drop top, they re pretty different. 458 spider "kinda" splits the difference...you didn't say 458 spider or coupe...kinda hard to compare the coupe to the two convertibles you mention...
