One of my many 360 projects. I had these leather (softer) belts made up to replace the original plastic ones that were splitting apart. Next step is dying them to get them as close as possible to the original color. Not sure if it will work out or not, but they are a pretty good match so far... And I think they will hold up better.

I actually took one of my old Stradale off and had it handmade overseas, it came out marvelous but it came back after I had already sold the car so I mailed them to the new owner.

They look great! Better than the ones I had made (at a shoemaker, not THE Schumacher)to solve the cracking problem.

I had assumed they were leather to begin with, did not know they were plastic.

I'm not sure how the dye process will come out - should have gotten a close match prior to getting them all assembled with the hardware. We'll see! OEM ones are not that great and so rigid.

    Update time...

So I started dying them today... It became immediately clear that I was going to have no chance exactly matching the leather of the toolkit. I figured it would drive me nuts to have an almost match... And the only way to have a good match is buying the OEM brittle pieces. So, I ended up going dark brown, obviously dark. It's leather, so it has those nice imperfections, and I think it will look nice and luxurious under the hood. We'll see if it satisfies my attention to detail... And if not, at least it was a decent first shot, and doesn't break every time I put back in the tool kit.

    Pic of them drying.

If it does not, these people will supply dye matched to your sample.

Home Page | Leatherique Restoration Products

I used them to match a similar color and they did a good job.

It'll keep us both busy! :)

The dye source might have been :: Color Plus ::

This was a long time ago....and there is a recent recco for color plus over leatherique sewhere on fchat.

Ya think the person at Ferrari who specified and/or sourced the belts is the same one who chooses the audio components?

Ok, so for good measure I'll update this thread. I ended up not being happy with the rivet holes and overall fit of the first set of belts I had made, so I had a second set made. Color does not and will not match the spare tool case... But it's pretty good. Also, belts do not have the nice stitching around the edges. Hardware and quality is much better. I think I could obsess over these stupid things for a while... In fact I considered removing the things and having a clean trunk. The OEM rivets were a little weird... Some strange diameter. Slight drill out of the square metal washer things to make standard size rivets work was in order... But was a quick job.

I don't like the lack of edge stitching, but I'm particularly upset about the ill fitting cloth and those horrible wrinkles. Couldn't you have a good tailor take in the seams a little bit so that it fits better? And how about passing an iron over it to take care of those wrinkles.

Think how mortified you'll be the next time a hotel bell hop grabs your luggage and sees how you care for the inside of your luggage compartment. He's going to give you the stink-eye and you'll feel terrible.

Please don't embarrass the Ferrari community. We all have to do our part to uphold the image, don't we?

Please report back when you get more squared away. In the mean time, drop and give me ten push ups.

hmmm you have a point there sir. :) I'll try and put in the bag cleaner. I do like the stitching too, but that ended up being a complicated addition when the quality and thickness of leather increases (i guess)..

How are you fastening them to the chassis? In my 430 it looks like they are attached with rivets.
