Hi all. Been lurking on here for some time now. This is my first post, so be gentle !
    I've been a Porsche owner/driver for the past twelve years now (964 RS, 993 RS, 996 GT3, 996 GT3 RS, 996 GT2 and 997 GT3)

Unfortunately I feel I've O/D'd on some of Stuttgarts finest drivers cars, and hence I'm now giving serious consideration to selling my Mk1 996 GT3 and 964 RS and going to the darkside.

I'd like to buy either a LHD Challenge Stradale or LHD 430 Scuderia. Due to financial constraints that's unlikely to happen, and in reality I'll more than likely buy a LHD 360 Modena F1 or a LHD F430 F1.

Whilst looking at a predominantly UK based forum I found this comment on the F430 :

"When I was looking I was told watch out for the manifolds cracking and the front suspension/wishbone bushes or something failing faster than normal. Also get a clutch wear print out. Bar that was told to go for a 2008 model or later"

And it's the final part of that quote that intrigues me.

Were there any important upgrades/improvements between production starting in 2004 and ceasing in 2009 ? And specifically any notable changes from 2008 MY on cars ?

If there were any changes during its production, could anyone enlighten me as to what the nature of these changes were ?

    Many thanks in advance.

This topic is very well documented in this forum so for detail I would suggest liberal use of the search function, but here is a summary:

2008 onwards: mk11 headers less prone to cracking (can and do still crack apparently).
Smoother shifting F1 gearboxes, and ceramic brakes became standard fitment.
I'm sure that their were other detail upgrades/changes but I think this covers the major ones. I have a 2008 car and in all honesty it is perfect, I think as with all automotive model cycles the cars built towards the end generally are the best developed and sorted reliability wise of the lot.

    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure smoother shifting F1 box has been confirmed as fact, F1 updates have taken place but it's hearsay as to the effects of these changes. My 06 didn't feel any different to an 09 in terms of shifting.

I think it's mainly the manifolds... Everything else has not been confirmed... Re the CCB thy also came on 05 cars and up it was just a factory option Dosent mean it wasn't available... My 05 had CCB

It would be nice to see the actual F1 improvements over the years documented in a thread here...

Otherwise, I can take or leave CCB's. Big $ if they chip or need replacing and no real difference in stopping in 99.99% of real world braking. No brake dust on the wheels is nice tho...

2005 430 gated manual with 20,000 miles (2,000 per year, just enough to keep it in shape) is the deal of F-car world right now imho (especially if you are looking to get something to keep for a decade)...or maybe its 550...or maybe 360 gated manual...oh heck...I give up :) [I'd figure out an aftermarket headers-back, complete exhaust change if I bought a 430]

If I had been gung-ho it could have been done like the 575M version, but I think one of you F430 owners can do that. Forget who asked for the info, but I must have been in a good mood that day.

I have an 08 430 (build date Feb 2008). I do not know what version of exhaust headers it came with BUT there was an exhaust header failure at about 4300 miles. This was before I owned the car and the headers were replaced under warranty. I bring this up because apparently at least some 2008 models did have the cracking problem.

Stan- They changed the headers for MY08, but never changed the mounts, which were a big part of the problem.

Terry's post has given me an idea on how to get an algo to return all the updates and territory differences for any model. I am going to start work on it on Monday and will update this thread if I'm successful.

As a 2005 model year owner that could make depressing reading :(

    Would be strangely interesting though.

Ferrari has a history of making constant updates though I believe many of the part# changes are just numbers, not actual changes. I once compiled a long, long list of part changes for 328s similar to what Taz posted for 430s. 328s did have a big suspension makeover during the 1988 MY but 430s have remained pretty much the same. Like 328s, 430s were a well executed and engineered product from the getgo. My 3 pedal coupe is closing in on 9 years and it has been, by far, the cheapest of the eight Ferraris I have owned in terms of maintenance and repairs.

Thanks Terry for listing all the updates Ferrari performed during the 430 model run. I didn't realize Ferrari did so many updates on the 430, makes me glad I got an '08 as my assembly number is well after the last update on the list. For the exhaust manifolds, it seems Ferrari has a replacement kit for manifolds that were changed after assembly #74557, according to the technical bulletin that has been posted here many times. I wish Ferrari just does a recall on the manifolds so all 430s will get the updated versions. I just got my full service done and the shop said my exhaust manifolds were fine but your above post got me to think I should get those Capistro exhaust mounts as a preventative measure. I still have two more years left on the emission warranty so I'll have them checked right before it expires. If they're still okay I'll for sure get the Capistro mounts as the dealer will not replace the manifolds if they're found not leaking or cracked. Thanks again for taking the time to list all the changes!

My 3 pedal 07 was built in Nov. 2008 and although it is a 2007 the factory switched over after August vacation to the 2008 changes which is the plastic liner in front trunk and no key lock on passenger side. The ceramics were still an option so I was able to save $16K by not ordering them. I have 25K miles on my car and the headers were replaced. I am still on my original clutch and did replace front rotors and pads at 10K miles ( I have since learned to let the car slow down without touching the brakes at speeds over 150). Otherwise all I have done are annual services

Dave- I do not believe hat is not true for the most part. Changing parts numbers costs money and Ferrari does not do it lightly. Some parts carry over for 10 years or more over several models without a change. Some of the bushings used in the 308 were still being used, with the same part number, in the 575M, and there are multiple examples of that. In general, a parts number change is made for something significant, not for no reason. I have gone through the 575M in really heavy detail and none of the updates of part numbers were for identical parts. Cannot see the F430 being any different.

Hi sorry if this is a dumb question, but how does the assembly number relate to the chassis number in the below post? Looking at a couple of cars and wondering how to cross reference?

Additionally, would anyone know when F430 model years start? ie do 2008 model year cars start from 1 Jan 2008 or did Ferrari start building 08 spec models in late 07?

    Appreciate any thoughts.

Is there a way to cross check assembly number to chassis number? Am looking at a couple of cars and only have the chassis number. Sorry if this is a dumb qn.

Additionally, does anyone know if Ferrari 430 model years start in a certain month? ie would an 08 car only be produced from January 08 or some time in the second half of 07?

    Appreciate any thoughts.

Ferrari bases the car on the year it was made. My car is a Nov 07 build but has the changes made to the 08s. They made the changes after being closed for August vacation but the car year is still based on the year made
