    Here you go for sharing.

    Situation:
OE luggage compartment bulb is too dim. Cant see anything inside the luggage compartment.

    Target:
Replace with super bright LED bulb.

Type of bulb is called Festoon. Size is 38mm.

Found these at Amazon. Plug and play.

    Amazon.com: 10pcs 39mm White 8 LED 5050 SMD Festoon Dome Light 6411 6418 for Car: Automotive

If the bulbs dont light up - reverse the orientation 180 degrees as LED bulbs typically have polarity (positive and negative)

Enjoy your new well lit luggage compartment.

Good job Dan! I'm waiting for my order to arrive - 12 SMD 5050 error free 39mm festoon which I ordered on eBay. I've also ordered T10 12 SMD 5630 error free for my dome light.
Can't be too bright in the cabin when eyes are failing.

Dan is like our new low-voltage King around here. He's got so much know-how he's willing to share to help make these great cars more, well, modern.

Maybe some day Dan can devise a system to DIY cruise control!!! :) And nobody give me any BS about cruise control being your "right foot." I've heard that one before!

    Thanks Dan!

    Thanks Gary.

Just take note, the dome light requires polarity free LED bulb. It will work one way door open mode but will not work with switch on the other mode (full on mode) if the LED used is not polarity free / no polarity / works either direction.

The LED I recommended on my Overhead light Mod post works great. Super bright!

You are welcome Alan. Glad I can help.

Me too, I can finally see what's inside my luggage compartment!

I am currently replacing my stereo amp, and also installing a new DVD player with back up camera. Will share that info here soon too once I am done.

Just trying to help and sharing the knowledge.

Hummm, Cruise Control. I will see what I can learn about that for Ferrari's.

I installed one in my old car and it worked great.
    Someone told me before to use a 2 X 4 stud :)

    You're welcome!

Possible, but its currently not in the top of my mod priority list as our HID headlights are very bright, and I very rarely drive my car at night.

Will add this to my mod list though and will share what I learn.

Popped mine in tonight. It was a bear to pop out the lens and then a real pain to get the new lamp in. I wonder if there is a size that is slightly smaller that would work? I broke one of them trying to wedge it in but since they come in a pack of 10 no biggie. The light is nice though even though the substrate is a little wide to have it angled perfectly into the space. Thanks Dan, these lower draw lights are welcome in my machine...keep em coming!

I agree -- you can't rotate the lamp enough to shine directly through the lens as there is a little pip in the way. Still plenty bright enough though.

    Hi Kevin,

My light assembly popped right out, no problem at all.
I think the key is to use a wide head flat screw driver, push the light assembly towards aft of the vehicle, then twist the screw driver and the lens should pop right out. Mine did at least.

The LED's I bought fit perfect on mine and I can angle it any degree I want.
Hummm, I wonder why its tight on yours.....

Yes, they make "Festoon" bulbs in smaller size and may fit yours better. The ones I bought were 38mm.
I found some for you: You can try this if you want. This one is slightly smaller 37mm & 36mm.

    http://www.amazon.com/CBConcept%C2%AE-2X37mm6SMD-CW-37mm-Power-Festoon/dp/B004WLCAOM/ref=sr_1_73?ie=UTF8&qid=1398949294&sr=8-73&keywords=festoon+led+white

And I am still not 100% happy as the luggage compartment could use more light so I will buy an equivalent new light assembly and install it on the opposite side. BMW makes them as I had them on my M6. They're about $25.00 each, no biggie. Or prolly find one in eBay made by Toyota and cost 5 bucks. Its only for luggage compartment...

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Alan,

Interesting that mine fits perfect and bulb rotates freely to any angle I want to aim the light properly....

I replied to Kevin with some other bulb options for you guys.

I think it's because the bulbs you recommended in your 1st post were 39mm versus the stock size of 38mm.

I ordered the 39mm version and it is a very tight fit because they're too big. I was able to install the one in the luggage compartment without too much of an issue, but the one in glovebox was worse and the end of the bulb slightly broke.

I would recommend buying the 38mm size. I didn't think 1mm would make too much of a difference, but it did.
