The whole "tracked" thing cracks me up. Buying a Scuderia and not tracking it is like buying a baton, then selling it and saying, "never twirled"... but if you track it, no one will buy it because they think the car is now ruined! Newsflash: Every Ferrari is "tracked" before it ever leaves the factory.

God that question bugs me. I don't understand people's obsession with whether a car has been tracked or not.

A well driven car that is properly maintained is what you want...doesn't matter if it's been tracked.

You are assuming I asked it in a negative way. No need to jump to conclusions.

I asked the same question of every Scud I was considering. A track mile is more wear than a normal road mile - there's no question about that. I plan to spend as much time on the track as possible as well. A car not driven could also be an issue IMO because it could have issues that have not been shaken out yet. It's just part of understanding the history of the car.

For sure there is more wear and tear on a car that's been tracked.

My 911 was tracked 12-15 times/year for a couple of years. Even though the car was solid mechanically, I would take a pampered 911 over it.

Assuming you never tracked a car? A well maintained car that has been tracked is certainly more beat up than a car driven in a normal atmosphere. My 911 was tracked and maintained well but I would never want to be the next one to own it. I hammered that car. Anytime you buy these cars and spend the money you do, the first question to ask is if the "car was tracked" than "do you have a service record". Nuff said

Do you disclose the car is "hammered" or does the next owner pay the price and get abused?

Tracking a car is almost by definition "hammering" the car.

Do I disclose? I would if I was selling privitely, but usually I just trade in the car and the dealer never asks.

A car that is tracked most likely has far much more of its engine run-time living in the upper rpm's and also the rest of its mechanicals & structure is taxed more than a car that's only been road going.
But, a lot depends too at what percentage the driver is using the car on track. I've had students who are driving maybe 60-80% of the cars potential and that's it...and with not a hint of smelly brakes. That's really no more wear done than a heated drive through town or a run through the twisties on back roads. I've also had sports cars getting wringed of every bit of energy possible while running advanced group HPDE's and they still look cosmetically pristine and are better maintained than their road-going counterparts. Would I shy away form purchasing one of them? ... I don't know, but in most cases probably not if its never made contact with anything.
I think the level of 'tracking' should be discussed if the answer is yes.

Agreed. Many people do Not want a tracked car. Exactly why when someone finds out a car for sale that has been tracked, (FOE? perfect example) is told by everyone here,
''Hey, that's a track car"! And suggests to run the other way.

LOL. I think you'd be surprised at the cars I've tracked.

This forum is full of stories of Ferraris that have all sorts of failures with virtually zero miles of any kind. Gas tanks and gaskets and disintegrate from lack of use, manifolds that fail with laughably low miles, actuators that go pop on non-tracked cars.

Porsche has had plenty of similar problems...IMS failures on 10,000 mile garage queens and brand new GT3s that go up in flames.

I don't think that track miles add up to a hill of beans other than consumables like brakes and pads as well as cosmetic wear (chips and whatnot).

A numbskull that lugs the engine in too high a gear, races the engine when cold, fills a car with too low an octane rating, takes it over a curb with no traceable damage other than everything is slightly bent and can't be properly aligned anymore is ALL worse than a well driven car on track.

That's just IMHO but that's what forums are for...
