I feel that we need some data ... At least from the FChat community. Who here has had a 360 F1 and had issues with it?
Define "issue". As pointed out in the related thread, many have not had to spend $ on a repair but have had the thing overheat and act strange (not go into gear, go to N, etc, etc) but then go back to normal without needing repair.
Surely as a reference you need to ask about manual cars as well? Perhaps then remove clutch related issues from the results?
How many have you repaired? How many bad clutch sensors have you replaced? How many bad throw out bearing seals have you replaced? F1 and manual are different seals. How many bad sensor mounts have you replaced? How many TCUs have you replaced because of improper clutch operation? That is just a few examples. How many of those are operator error?
Clutches? None. F1's? None. I'm not professing to be a mechanical expert, simply an owner who took time to learn how to drive an F1 and also a keen forum follower. My point is that so many F1 issues posted on forums turn out to be a clutch issue - if the intention of the Poll is to gauge the reliability of the 360 F1 then some account needs to be taken of the clutch/owners role in the unreliability, just as owners of manual cars who say they have had gearbox issues would probably not include a clutch replacement as being a gearbox problem. Simply needs to be a level playing field for comparison purposes.
You writ as if you can separate the way the person drives the car from the car itself. Cannot be done. They go together. If the owner NEVER drove the car, then there would be no issues at all. Your position is that many of the problems with the F1 are due to that a lot of people driving them don't know how to do it. I agree. But you have to look at the totality of the issue - manner of use goes with the durability of the system to withstand the use to produce reliability. This is no differnet that what you analyze as the reliability of the manual clutch system. If you have a bozo driver that slips the clutch all the time, the clutch wears faster. Plus, you never even get close to the real issue, how much does it cost to fix an F1 problem compared to a manual problem.
Russel you cannot compare Superfast 2 to F1 gearbox that was mounted on 360 Modena. It's like oranges and apples. Day and night. 360 F1 software simply sucks, it is well known for eating clutches.
What do you know Rifledriver... Are you like a mechanic or something? Funny how many of your clients are silent or not on FChat. I once asked 4 guys at a gas station if their cars were electric....
I mean ANY issue at all... Even if it went back to "normal." If something went wrong on my F1 (if I get it) and then it fixes itself, I would still likely take it to the shop.
And that would be very smart. Most people who get stranded or have continuing problems, short clutch life etc are the ones who chose to ignore symptoms. You know, kind of like people who drop dead from a heart attack. The system has been problematic for people who come here and read that those things are just normal and need to be lived with or accepted. They are not.
Only one issue that cost any money. I had to have the bleed block replaced because it was weeping, showing signs of stress. Had it upgraded to the F430 F1 bleed block and hose. Only other minor issue was I needed to have a PIS adjustment when I first got the car to get the shifts dialed in just right.
Add my 02 360 to the list of cars that had an F1 issue (clutch sensor) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I am still confused. What constitute F1 issues? Any issue really? Is clutch normal wear and tear considered F1 issue? Mine pops out of gear now once in a while but its because the clutch is 80% worn.
If it's clutch related as far as it being worn, then no. We're looking for all and any issues, but when it comes to wear and tear then that's another story. It's like saying "my tires are worn and therefore give me problems..I need to replace them." - Well, that's what needs to be done every once in a while. Do you know what I mean?
I'm not sure if I can consider it an F1 issue or not. I had an intermittent transmission light come on. I did the troubleshooting and repair myself. It only took $35 and 5 minutes of my time to fix it. It wound up being a faulty brake light switch that confused the F1 system. I'm thinking no F1 problems, since it was a brake light switch that isn't exclusive to an F1 equipped car.
I've had no problem with mine. 2002 with 27,000 miles which has been driven 11,000 miles in the last year.
