    Search for the thread about how to change the shifter bushing (probably in the DIY sticky section) and you'll find good instructions on removal of the centre console.

    If I understand correctly the piece you are talking about it's just stuck down with a bit of double-sided tape and you just need to tease something in under it and prise it out.
