Took my wheels off to look at aftermarket options and saw these guys sticking out.. Never seen this before in any of my other cars.. What's the purpose? Also what if a set of aftermarket wheels don't have holes for those things sticking out? Do we take them off?

They locate the disc on the hub so it doesn't fall off or rotate when the wheel is removed.

Yes you can remove them if you need to as the disc will be sandwiched in the middle but better to retain if you can. Maybe by cutting down the one with the pin extending out of it you can manage?

Does the 430 normally come with two piece rotors?

No that car has the Girodisc aftermarket ones. Very nice, pretty expensive.

Edit: the 430 CCM discs are two piece.

The pin makes it easier to put on the wheels. You can hang the wheel on that small pin while you position it. The small bolt stops rotor turn when installing the wheels; allows your wheel bolts to go in easily.

You can actually take them both off if needed. The wheel bolts keep the rotors from spinning and really take the load. I wouldn't cut the pin, it doesn't win you anything.

What's the purpose of the 2 pcs rotor? Just a new discovery for me haha.

Aluminum hat makes the system much lighter. Reduces heat transfer to the bearings.

Not to hijack this thread, but for 2 piece rotors I prefer StopTech's.

It just means you can replace the friction surface rather than the whole disc. I really like the design of these but in the UK they are 5 times the price of standard brembo steel rotors.

The ally centre reduces unstrung mass apart from looking good......

Yes, that tool is really great.

Prefer why? looks, performance, cost, ??? I have the Gyrodisc and I like them a lot. I had them drilled and slotted and I like the scalloped edge better on the hat; I think they look fantastic. Performance I haven't had any issues but haven't done a track day with them yet.

Cost. There is nothing wrong with Girodiscs.

No, aluminum actually increases heat transfer to the bearings. Much higher thermal conductivity than iron. Titanium hats reduce heat transfer to the bearings (less conductive than iron, and <<LESS than Aluminum!).

Ha Ha! Great marketing by Ricambi. That's an OEM Porsche part (same thread pitch on the lug bolts).

This would be true IF the hats were hard fastened to the rotors. The rotors are floating and isolated from the hats by the titanium fasteners. At least on my rotors they are full floating.

Update. I just checked and the StopTechs and Girodiscs are comparable in price, though I can't find drilled Girodiscs on their website, only slotted (and not slotted and drilled like Skidkid's). Anyway, the StopTechs are really nice and also floating.

since we are already talking about braking, I am hijacking a little.
the rear 360 brake has a second set of calipers (gray color). what's the purpose.
    thanks.

Parking brake. (Oops, didn't see it was already answered before responding.))

BTW, the StopTechs are floating as you can see. Drilled are $1050 per pair at Zeckhausen Racing.

And I got 2 sets off Amazon for ~$30 each. They make reattaching wheels *much* easier, especially on things like a friends Range Rover. Screw them in, hang wheel, spin in lug nuts, done.
