I´ve seen a couple of posts on the web, but still not sure what to do. I recently swapped my OEM exhaust for a Capristo. Today I was moving my old OEM exhaust in the garage when I discovered that it´s full of white powder. I have read that this is some kind of insulation material. There are several pics online. Anyways, I need the original exhaust..just in case, and want to have it clean and ready. Can I just flush this powder out with high pressure water? Or at least try... Can I still use the OEM exhaust in the future? Thanks
If the powder is getting out of it that generally means it's at or near end of life. I can't see any reason why not to wash it thoroughly and use it again. I'd say it's unlikely you will manage to wash all the powder out so it will likely start blowing again once it's put back into use.
I didn´t notice any powder getting out or into the engine bay when I was using it. The exhaust has done 19K miles. The next owner some day might also appreciate having the OEM exhaust.
I have it laying around in the garage. When I lifted it I noticed it was full of that white powder that started coming out. If I lift it and shake it, it comes out... It seems like its full of it
My newly bought car came with a aftermarket exhaust and the eng bay was completely covered with the exh white powder so set about restoring the engine bay but then got carried away a wee bit still in the process will be new yr when she's ready to roll but I'm loving every minute of it. If it comes with enough white powder to shake out then your 360 may magically be worth the same as a LaFerrari.
Nice. What's in these exhausts that makes the white powder. Anyone cut one apart to see. Is it fibreglass packing breaking down? Are Tubis/Capristos etc glass packed or stainless wool packed or simply steel chambered?

From what I've read so far it's party powder that's been stepped on by hookers and strippers. No reason for alarm.
Not alarmed at all. I can handle all the party powder, hookers and strippers you want to throw my way. Just for the last 3 years I have been hearing about this EXHAUST powder and no one knows what makes it or how these mufflers work? Stock or aftermarket?
It is a layer of insulation between the inner and outer skins and about 10mm thick. You can find pics of silencers cut open if you look hard enough. The material looks solid but cracks up and breaks down with the heat and stresses. There must be at least a couple of kilos of it in there. I'm looking to buy an OEM silencer, split it, remove the insulation and replace it with a wrap. If I get around to it, I'll post pics.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ferrari 360 Exhaust Silencer | Aldous Voice Given that the silencers are stainless steel then I think they are work repairing. You can get sheet insulation material and cut it into strips then insert it into the casing (which would need opening up first). Lee
Thanks that explains it. I assume the likes of a Tubi or other aftermarket exhaust does not have the white insulation?
