I saw ricambi's site has the cover available for sale, but I assume the vin isn't there.....

I second that.. of all the things to steal... Might want to put it into a MR2 for a more accurate representation.

IMHO get the plastic. The VIN plate may have to be specially ordered from a dealer. You have the door plate and the chassis for the VIN confirmation if needed.

the place I live would generate such conditions that using somebody else's vin on their car can avoid some police alert....... complicated..... some people would buy totaled cars just for the vin, for cheap of course

Ahhh. Perhaps also provide some sort of notification to local police? that way you can be absolved if someone uses it for a crime..

getting a new VIN plate is easy, not cheap but super easy, Vin Plates - Aftermarket

Mine is missing and was missing when I purchased the car, but I have other things I need to spend money on instead of the VIN plate so I am not replacing it.

Your VIN is in other locations as well. So no worries.

Tian, this sounds like a strange and worrisome situation. How could someone get into your car to steal the steering column where the VIN is found. Has it already been stolen? If so, what is the VIN - we'll keep an eye out for it. But what others have said are, right car's VIN is stamped and labeled in several places. So if your steering column VIN has been stolen, you can still prove it belongs to you and your car.
