Hello everyone, I'm currently in the market for my very first Ferrari. I am looking for an F430. I have been looking at pretty much all years but I recently stopped by a local Ferrari dealership and the salesman said I should "stick with 2007 or newer".

He also said, "Not that there's anything wrong with 2005/2006, but I'd go for 2007". He didn't really go into any details about *why* that's true and I can't find much info about what's different between the F430 model years.

Is this advice I should follow? Is the there anything in the 2007+ model years that's significantly better than 2006? I'm trying to stay away from 2005 just because I don't like buying the first model year for a car.

I've always bought on condition and records but that's just me. Maybe new header design on the later cars.

A salesman statement with no information to back it up goes in one ear and out the other. Though Id rather trust a tourist with directions than trust a salesmans opinion....

Muffler bearings known to be upgraded on the latest models I guess.. :)

I guess I could understand more if he said to buy a 2008 or newer model because of the brakes. But nothing immediately comes to mind about a 2006 vs a 2007.

    Somewhere
I was in the same situation.

But then I thought to myself, do I really need to spend all that extra money for carbon ceramics? After all, I am not tracking it, nor do I use 100% of the cars performance.

I could not justify spending about $5-10k per year. I ended up going with a 2005 which was in great shape.

But between 2005-2007 I dont see the point of spending extra. Options dont seem to make a difference, it seems to really come down to year and miles.

the brakes were an option in 07 - that's probably why the salesman said that - they became standard in 08

Nothing wrong w the 05-07 just get one with the options you desire. The CCM brakes were standard 08 onwards but that's something you may or may not care about although desirable they are more expensive.

Watch out the header issue that the header will eventually crack - mine was cracked; there was a white paper mentioned about the early 430 header used wrong material ...

FWIW, I think the Ferrari CCB system is superb. It was difficult to detect much of a difference between the Ferrari CCB and standard steel brakes. To me, that's a great accomplishment.

If it's really a choice you have (spending the extra for an '08) or not, then you owe it to yourself to test drive an '08 or later car to determine the difference, and if it matters to you. But, then again, the OP asked about '06 and '07, so it seems like it's a moot point.

We can't answer that question, only provide some guidance.

In my situation, I don't track my Ferrari, but would I like CCB? YES!

isn't it related to the header issue ?
I thought that all cars before 2007 are having the older exhaust headers will need to be replaced for the cracking problem and the cars from 2007 on have standard the new headers.
    Or am I completely wrong ?? :)

My philosophy is simple... buy the newest car you can afford. Each year the factory learns new things about the cars they're making and make updates. I'm not aware of any significant changes between '06 and '07 (TPS became mandatory towards the end of '07). I had an '07 F430 coupe which was bullet proof. Other than my 16M, it was the best car I ever owned.

I also looked for a late model F430 but ended up buying 2005 because it had everything I wanted except for the carbon fiber steering wheel. Specifically I wanted the racing seat which I found out were only available on 2005 so later model years were not a consideration once I started looking seriously.

I was concerned that the first model year would have some problems based on my prior experience buying new model cars. So far the F1 hydraulic line ruptured - apparently a design defect as it was installed with a kink in place. My mechanic said that this was corrected in later model years.

For me having the racing seat was more important having a later model year car or car that was not spec'ed the way I wanted it and still extremely happy with my car.

    Hi there,
there's absolutely nothing wrong with earlier models, even if headers can be a problem and along the years the F430 has seen quite a few updates as you can read by Tazandjan's post.
They're great cars with great engines but since you're shopping around I'd suggest you to look for the most recent car you can afford.Steel brakes are like anchors but I've had CCB ones fitted to my car. They were a very expensive option but it's been money well spent. Here in Italy they're a sought-after option and help resales!
    Cheers

I would say differences between 2005 to 2007 are negligible. As Taz's post shows, there were production changes throughout the production years. But the most significant changes were early 2005s had 360 F1 pumps. Since the pump ran both the F1 transmission and the new Ediff, it was found to be undersized and prone to failure. Mid 2005, Ferrari chose to upgrade the pump. (if you are looking at a 2005, it would be worth inquiring if the pump was upgraded, either as a warranty fix, or by the previous owner) The other significant change was in late 2007 (or starting with 2008 production) was a different transmission software, that is not upgradable for earlier cars. I have had mixed feedback from F430 owners and service technicians on the significance of this change. Some claim it is very significant, others say not so much. There is an fchatter here with one of each and he said you can tell, and the later one shifts better and smoother.

Any car under consideration should have the exhaust manifolds smoked checked for leaks. One reason to consider an 08 or 09, it will still fall under the 8 year/80k mile federal emission warranty. Earlier cars, you are on your own.

B, Greg- Go to Ricambi's online parts catalog and look for the AN (61589 for F1) when the F1 pump was changed. Then correlate that to an approximate serial number (1439XX-1441XX).
