I decided to strip the paint off of my ignition key. It was looking very tired, and I thought it would look better as a highly buffed piece of jewelry. I removed the glued on Horse. I used a Dremel stripping wheel to get the paint off. Then I took it to my local Jeweler and asked him to buff it out and epoxy the horse back on afterwards. I think it came out very nice. I have included some pics for comparison

If you don't cover that key with some sort of lacquer it will start to oxidize -- it's aluminum. I painted mine but it chips so I am going to get it powder coated.

I was going to clear coat it, but will wait and see how it wears. I will post some pics in a couple of months.

Get some NevRDull and rub the key with that occasionally. Removes oxidation and leaves a coating on the aluminum. Used on bare aluminum aircraft.

I've had mine un-coated for maybe 1.5 years and it still looks the same as when I ground the paint off and left it in a semi-polished state. I was going to paint it, and stopped thinking it looked pretty darn cool.

I polished mine about 5 months ago and it's still pretty shiny. Though i could not for the life of me get the darn horse off the key.

I left mine with more of a brushed look... my horse just popped off with a prick of a knife... weird. I wonder what yours was stuck on with!
