I took my 430 in for an oil change yesterday and once the belly pan was dropped we found coolant residue. The weep hole on the water pump was oozing coolant. Bad water pump.

How much is it to replace the water pump?

Waiting on a quote. The car is still at the shop. Not going to be cheap. The water pump and oil pump share the same shaft. Lots of labour involved. The part is $3500. The joys of Ferrari ownership.

Wow, I had no idea this was the design! Interesting. Looks like it comes apart. but also looks like, from a design standpoint, their approach to scalability was met by adding oil capacity as they went along and discovered they needed more!

Well not really. That is a very typical design for a dry sump oil pump. They require several segments like that just to do their job.

Fwiw , mine went in for service last month and I was told I needed a new water pump too 5600. I've had the car 1 year and drove it 4 k miles. She now has 9200 k. So good luck with yours. Pm me if I can be of assistance. Ps. The Ferrari dealer found other things too. 14 k later here we are.

Have a lot of folks had this problem? I wonder what the statistics are on failure rates. This is scary.

Why would the leak signal a bad pump ? There is a plug at the point of the leak.....don't understand why it cannot be replaced.

I asked this too. I'm not a do it yourself guy so I went with it. I think when they opend it up it was toast. It was tough to digest and then I remembered the amount of money I spent on my old boat , suddenly it became palatable.

Maybe the pump is leaking from the shaft (hence, needing rebuild), it just happens to collect and drip from the lowest point, the plug - just a thought.

I believe that the unsealed plug is there for that reason. If the bearing seal is leaking, fluid escapes it and drips through the plug. This warns the owner of impending bearing failure so the pump can be replaced prior to freezing up.

No, it allows water to escape without being forced through the bearing and oil seal into the engines oiling system. SOP in nearly all waterpumps no matter the manufacturer.

It is seven or so years old. Much better than many Ferrari waterpumps.

Just rebuild the water pump. It is just seals and possibly bearings. The seal kit only costs $165 or so. Crazy to spend $5000 on this.

    Example:
