So, they released the specs on the 2016 GT3 RS. Since I have a 2007 F430 Berlinetta, I found the specs somewhat familiar:

    4.0L B6 motor
    500 PS (493 hp)
    480 Nm (354 ft-lbs)
    0-62 mph in 3.3s5
    0-120 in 10.9
320 kph top speed (198 mph)

So, it took Porsche til 2016 come up with a very expensive, super special car to do what Ferrari did with a base model F430, ELEVEN years ago!?!?

Apples to Oranges...the 991 GT3 RS will teach the F430 a lesson on the track, but for a DD the F430 is the easier choice.

Funny post. The 996 GT3 was just as capable as a 430 in it's day even though the performance stats were not in it's favour. The 991 rs will be Speciale fast. And since when did a 430 do 0-62 in 3.3s?!

I just posted as an interesting comparison. I have a few Porsches, too. I love them, dearly; from my wonderfully fun and balanced 924S race car to my '88 Carrera widebody, to my 2001 911 turbo BEAST track day car.

I have been spending the vast majority of driving in my F430. It's far and away my favorite!

It clicks all the buttons- nicely balanced feel on the pedals, wonderful feedback on the shifter (all my sports cars are manuals) and light effort steering wheel that great feedback, as well. Add in the great sounding motor and typically BEAUTIFUL Ferrari styling and we have a WINNER in all directions!

Of course I follow all the new models introduced, but when the numbers came out on the new GT3 RS, I thought they looked somewhat familiar and chuckled because a manual gearbox is not even available. :::sadness:::

Sorry, but a modified Civic will put out those numbers as well. Not to take anything away from Ferrari, but the 991 GT3 RS will run circles around the F430 at the track.

I think he meant 996GT3RS (since OP brought up GT3RS). That car was just about as fast as the 360CS at the track - ergo same as 430.

but yeah, the 991GT3RS will absolutely spank the F430 at the track.

I was referring to the OP drinking the cool aid. Statements such as a F430 doing 0-62 in 3.3 secs or near about (implied) and Porsche taking 11 years to catch up to Ferrari.
If someone loves Ferrari (don't we all?) that's awesome but why belittle a great brand such as Porsche (and I am not at all a Porsche fanboy), that too based on a flawed argument....

    It's a lot faster than a base F430.

It's supposedly over 10 seconds faster on the Nurburgring than the 430 Scuderia, which is substantially faster than the F430. They claim "7:20s" for the new GT3 RS. Scud is 7:39. F430 did 7:55.

Better is subjective and a silly argument. Faster is doubtful - they are both in the 7:20s on the ring. Comes down to driver and preference really.

I really like the way Porsche have changed the rear suspension so many times to cure that poor design of a rear engine bias.
They'll get it right, keep trying!

I agree that a 430 is more fun to drive than a GT3. I also have a turbo s cab- very similar to the 430, only faster and the 430 is still more fun to drive

996 GT3 RS is real and illegal in the US....there is 1 collector, as far as I know, in the US that has one.

As much as I love driving my 430, It's no match for my Turbo S.

My 0.02, I drove both a 997.1 RS and a CS with 2 weeks same track same tires and they were the same (same time) on a short technical track -Lime Rock I have more experience with Porsche.

Love both the cars and wish I had them both back but I traded them for a 599 GTO

I have a 2005 F430 I bought new. It was about the fastest thing on wheels at the time. No surprise there are now many cars with more power and can beat it at a track as well.

IMO, we've entered an era of diminishing returns in terms of performance upgrades. I've never wished for more power than the 430 has, even at my power robbing altitude of 8000 ft. In terms of handling, I only rarely approach its limits on public roads. It would be unsafe most of the time. I have to go to tracks to explore the limits. More modern cars use an increasing amount of electronics (or 4 wheel steering) to increase handling limits. 430s have some of this as well though most of it can be turned off. They will allow the car to get way out of shape before attempting to intervene. This is fun! I'm also not a fan of the increasingly flat torque curves of modern engines. They are responsive and produce great acceleration, but I prefer a motor where power increases progressively with revs. More thrilling IMHO.

Call me a dinosaur or luddite if you wish. I can deal with it.

The 991 gt3 RS is impressive and Porsches feel sublime on track. The new cayman gt4 is said to be excellent also. The F430 is a visceral and aurel screamer and very connected to the driver, in many ways as the naturally aspirated GT Porsches have been too. I prefer that but nothing like the violent and downright brutal nature of my GT2 that's for sure!

If you put a gun to my head to buy a modern Porsche, I'm buying the Cayman GT4 every time. That thing is awesome.
