360 US Production from NHTSA

I've always heard it was less than a thousand per year. Checks out!

 

I think it is safe to assume the earlier years were probably a ramp up as each year added to the prior assembly numbers. I don't have a feel for the end of the run as the the 430 was coming up. Probably not many though and there were no coupes right?

63 million (UK population)
2164 cars In UK
Odds of 360 ownership in UK 29,100:1

Extrapolating NHTSA data Assuming average of 800 per year for 7 year run (likely over estimate)

316 million (USA population)
5600 cars - in USA

Odds of 360 ownership in USA 56,430:1

So your ~1/2 as likely to own a 360 in USA compared to UK!

Hi im new to this forum and will be purchasing a 360 Modena F1 in the next few days. I have been doing quite a bit of research on the rarity of these cars in the US by model and color. I have found many different numbers but what I have concluded is that there were 17,667 total 360's produced worldwide (2,164 UK):

6,170 Modena F1 (702 RHD UK)
2,630 Modena 6MT (352 RHD UK)
5,460 Spider F1 (513 RHD UK)
2,119 Spider 6MT (478 RHD UK)
and 1,288 C.S. (119 RHD UK)

Is it reasonable to assume the US received two to three times as many 360's as the UK did? Lets say ~5,500 total of which ~55% would be Modena and ~45% would be Spider and assuming ~70% are F1 it leaves us with ~1,750 F1, 750 6MT spiders and 2,100 F1, 900 6MT Modena's. divided by 6 model years means ~900 per year for the US? So for a loose estimate based on of the data we have on any given year 315 F1 of each and 135 6MT of each? If we agree or can update these estimates we can begin to break down color estimates per year.

 

So, about 42.6% of coupes and 38.8% of spiders have manual transmission. Not the estimated 10 -20% that others here have stated.

 

Your fuzzy math eludes me...using the same numbers I come up with 29.9% and 28.0% respectively. I don't have any further evidence, but those low percentages are for the often touted for the US market. I don't think you can base one markets sales off of another...

 

My numbers reflect 30% 6MT and 70% F1 based on global figures but this is exactly the feedback I'm looking for do you have any references to back up your 42.6% and 38.8%? From what I can tell Worldwide production shows 29.89% of coupes and 27.96% of spiders are 6 speed manual transmission.

 

So to update the numbers based on 5,500 total US production

53.73% coupes (2,072-F1/883-6MT) and 46.27% Spider's (1,833-F1/712-6MT)

Assuming

1999- 15% (825) (443 coupes/ 382 spiders) (132-6MT Coupes/107-6MT Spiders)
2000- 18% (990) (532 coupes/ 458 spiders) (159-6MT Coupes/128-6MT Spiders)
2001- 14% (770) (414 coupes/ 356 spiders) (124-6MT Coupes/99-6MT Spiders)
2002- 13% (715) (384 coupes/ 331 spiders) (114-6MT Coupes/92-6MT Spiders)
2003- 16% (880) (473 coupes/ 407 spiders) (141-6MT Coupes/114-6MT Spiders)
2004- 18% (990) (532 coupes/ 458 spiders) (159-6MT Coupes/128-6MT Spiders)

4 valves per cylinder?

 

There are a lot of numbers out there but from my research the most concrete numbers are from Maranello "A Guide to Ferrari Road Cars" where they show 8,800 Coupes and 7579 Spiders. If we take out the known UK cars then we are left with a total of 14,334. 7,746 Coupes(29.4%-6MT) and 6,588 Spiders(24.9%-6MT).

I completely missed this thread since I don't really hang out in this section much. Thanks for the shout out Taz!! The numbers for 1999 and 2000 per NHTSA (they're listed oddly) are 445 and 452 respectively. Also, there were about 110 '05 US-spec cars built (all Spiders). Also, based on data I have for 4000+ US-spec 360's, of which I have tranny data for almost 3/4ths of them, here are some rough percentages:

1999 - 100% Modena (16% 6MT)
2000 - 99% Modena (25% 6MT), 1% Spider
2001 - 31% Modena (24% 6MT), 69% Spider (24% 6MT)
2002 - 34% Modena (34% 6MT), 66% Spider (25% 6MT)
2003 - 33% Modena (29% 6MT), 67% Spider (36% 6MT)
2004 - 20% Modena (39% 6MT), 80% Spider (30% 6MT)
2005 - 100% Spider (15% 6MT)
total - 43% Modena (26% 6MT), 57% Spider (28% 6MT)

Throw in about 50-75 grey market cars and you have a decent idea of what we have here in the states

Interesting evolution on this thread. Thanks folks for the tenacity! For some reason I was under the impression a larger % were imported to the U.S. I guess I'm just egocentric.

 

Is the starting VIN as listed for correct? Mine is a July 1999 build 360 coupe with a serial number of 116912, it is titled as a 1999 model. Strangely this puts it after the 2000 spiders according to that chart.

Am I missing something?

This is an interesting thread though. I must admit I am more confused than ever on VINs.

 

These numbers aren't necessarily concrete, but they're close! Probably within +/- 10% for the totals. I do have doubts about that MY 2000 total # though, it doesn't completely agree with my data (I have ~600 cars). Throw in cars that were wrecked, exported, etc, and the *current* numbers are probably slightly lower. There's likely a good number of Canadian cars that have crossed the border too.

 

This is my first reply to this forum. Yesterday we purchased a 2002 360 F1 with 11,000 miles. It should be delivered Friday!
I like to know production numbers, have driven Corvettes for 30 years, thanks!
