Here you go for sharing. Dashcam video DIY

Some of us likes to record video when we go out for a drive with friends. Capture beautiful scenery, record the fun drive, etc.

Some likes to record video for security or safety purposes. Or in case a fender bender happens it clearly records who’s at fault.

And if someone sees you’re driving a high end car and states you hit them and claims personal injury – the dash cam hopefully will clearly show who’s at fault.

    See similar post here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/420440-should-we-use-dash-cam.html

I have a GoPro and Drift HD170, very happy with it but I thought its time to try something new. I also want the new video camera hardwired for power so that I wont have to worry about battery life.

Found this at Amazon, High Def 1080P and rated highly so I thought I’d try it. Its called GoSafe 200.

Amazon.com : PAPAGO GS200-US GoSafe 200 Full HD 1080P Clip Mount Dashcam with 2" Sliding Display (Black) : Electronics

Summary: Video quality for day time and night time is outstanding. Audio quality is also very good. It also has a small pull down LCD screen so you can aim the lens properly.

    Challenges:
Rear view mirror clip mount that it comes with doesn’t grip well with my 360. 360 rear view mirror is too thick. So I had to find a different mount.

Regular GPS windshield mount didn’t work as the leg doesn’t bend enough for camera to face front view.

I also need to find the mount compatible with GoSafe 200 quick disconnect mount. Lots of research done. Finally, fund this gooseneck cell phone windshield mount, same quick disconnect mount as the GoSafe 200, ordered and tried it. Perfect!

Amazon.com: FlyStone® iPhone 5S Car Vehicle Windshield Suction Cup Gooseneck Mount Rotating Holder for Apple iPhone 5 & iPhone 5S ONLY (NOT Fit For iPhone 5C) (for Apple iPhone 5/5S, Windshield Car Holder): Cell Phones & Accessories

Ordered a mini-usb power adapter. Wired it to my Valentine 1 power source. Works great except the connector touches the windshield. Ugh! Need to find a mini usb power adapter with angled connector.

    Found this: Perfect!
Amazon.com: EDO Tech® Ultra Compact Direct USB Hardwire Car Charger Cable Kit for Garmin GPS Nuvi StreetPilot, Great for Vehicle and Bike (no traffic receiver): GPS & Navigation

Done! Now when I turn the ignition on, video camera boots up and starts right up and starts to record. I don’t have to touch anything. Camera shuts down a couple of seconds after engine shut down. Camera can record to a loop and just overwrite the file when the memory card gets full.

Bought a 32GB card for $15.00. Cheap! 32gig records about 4 hours of video at 1080p. Click here:
    Amazon.com: Transcend 32GB MicroSDHC Class10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter 45 MB/s (TS32GUSDU1E): Computers & Accessories

    Below are some photos.
I have uploaded a 3 minute video sample to Vimeo but its still rendering.
Will post a link once the video file is fully on line.

Hope this helps some of you.

Hi Cyt, I used the same power wires that I tapped from for my Valentine 1 radar detector. I have a post here somewhere on that mod but here it is again. Please see attached.

    Hope that helps.

Hey Dan, covered a lot of territory in that 3 minutes! Whidbey Island, Alki, downtown (so glad they finally fixed the roads around the the south side of Lake Union). Camera video quality looked good.

I disagree with your choice of papago. There are so many better options out there.

Based on my own research and analysis, I found this to be the best.

Dome G90-7S GS90C 2.7 inch 16.0MP Resolution H.264 1296P Super HD Car DVR with GPS Charger

Lens: Dome 170 vs Papa 140
Resolution: Dome 1296 vs Papa 1080
    Image: Dome 16mp vs Papa?
Loop Dome - Seamless loop (no missed frames) vs Papa ?
Price Dome 85.99 vs Papa 129

    Dome wins it for me.

    Thanks Jim!

I love to drive on weekends. My favorite passion is driving.

I usually leave my house around 6:00 AM, watch the sunrise while I drive, go get lunch somewhere around noon, drive some more, then head home around 3 or 4 PM. Take the wife out to dinner that evening to keep the peace at home :)

    See you around.
