I came up on this a few hours ago on my way home. Turns out I know the owner. I'm sure it'll be totaled Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks like RR 2222 just before the architect house, good thing he ended up in the ditch vs into oncoming traffic.
Glad the owner is okay...it's just a car, and can be replaced. Good reminder to use the manettino as intended. Use the "low grip" mode when conditions merit.
Sorry about his troubles, glad he is ok, but how do you "lose control" on a flat and level 2 lane road??
2222 is far from being flat and level. Where this happened, which is between Mopac and loop 360, in my opinion you have some of the best turns and elevation changes of any road in Austin.
Ok, but in that picture where the car is in a ditch the road looks pretty straight and (fairly) level to me before and after it's position..
I see what you are saying. It does look like that in the picture. I guess he lost control at the previous turn, which was just before where I took the picture, and that's where the car ended up...
Right past mt Bonnell, very close to my office. What a shame. Today was a horrible looking day and then you add the sxsw traffic.... Hope all is well.
RR222 used to be was one of the deadliest roads in Texas, peppered with white crosses (until DOT removed them) they added a centered lane but this section doesn't have the space for...It's close to my house and have driven it many many times in the last 30 years, fun road with nice twisties with an interesting section just before the crash site.. I have seen two accidents happen in front of me on that section including a motorcycle in the ditch...with the pouring rain we got this afternoon, not surprising ...Again glad he didn't cross over to the other lane and he is ok, unlike a 911 that passed me many years ago and never made the corner, sadly outcome was different.
One thing that we all have to remember. The fact that we are driving expensive and fast cars it doesn't mean that we are invisible and safe. Weather and road conditions can put us in a certain situation and jeopardize our lives.
Good to know the owner is ok. Unfortunately, he'll likely go thru a bit of hassle dealing with the authorities and insurance with questions and issues such as ".... driving too fast for conditions..." or related questioning.... There can be a fair bit of stereotyping attached to an exotic sports car going off the road...
That's the car I'm working to bring back from the dead. I know why he crashed, a good lesson for all of us. Car has 3431 miles - 7 years old- tires had plenty of tread, but were also 7 years old. Old performance tire + light rain + lack of experience = bad day for a Scud Everything ages even when not being used - change the fluids and the tires at least every 2 years.
