When I bought my 2003 360 last October, the car suddenly went into neutral with the blinking "F1 failure" light when I was driving on the highway in 6th gear. That happened like 3 times during the first 1000 miles or so I had it. But since then (I have put on almost 4000 miles), it has not happened. I am told when cars haven't been driven a lot (as was the case with mine - less than 1k a year), there are little "electrical gremlins" that seem to work themselves out when driven. Hopefully that is the case with you and me!
