Well good news first of course: -Got the oil changed -Brake fluid changed to RBF660 - needed to be done (1 year and 2 track days); felt better after -Cleaned up the brakes and inspected RSC1 pads ok -Inspected suspension ok -New Tubi Ti exhaust on and sounds awesome -New Carbonio shift paddles on and really like them -Track day tomorrow and PVGP car show on Sat : ) Bad news: -Leaks from both valve cover gaskets (right and left) at either end (forward and aft) : ( Oh well, they are minor and seems not that uncommon from what I've read here. Right side aft seems to be the worst so far. This is a job I could do myself, but I think I may opt out and just have a pro do it. Been working on the cars for a few weeks on and off and a bit burnt out. Parts are cheap (~$100), but looks like $1500-2k labor based on some searching. Oh well. I will give MAG a call tomorrow to get a quote and see when they can take it. Just sucks to take the downtime as there is no local dealer and it has to go to OH, but I guess it will force me to finish the interior project on the 308 which has been neglected ; ) I'm thinking I will have them test the injectors and also change the spark plugs "while they are in there". Any other advice or experience on the topic is very welcome!
Pics of oil leaks. First pic is of undertray on left side with the diffuser removed. Second pic is of right side. Third pic is on right side looking up at leak from under the car with undertray removed. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
New shifters : ) Some notes: -I had to remove 5 screws to separate the column; not 2 as the instructions state -It is DAMN tight even with rotating the wheel - had to use a little 90 deg hex tool and it was slow going and I have decent dexterity...could be a real struggle for some. -Stock screws for the shifters had low strength threadlocker on them, so I also used some with the included screws from Carbonio -The stock "UP" and "DOWN" text on the shifters is silver, while Carbonio's is white - no issue for me -The quality is exceptional...as good or better than Ferrari -Got a nice deal simply by sending them a PM -Got them very quickly from Canada - must have been 3 days or so -CANADAAAAAAAAAA!!! ; ) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm looking for shifters which are extended downwards. For example the Novitec Rosso shifters are only extended upwards. How is it with your new ones? Which look amazing btw...
Carbonio paddles are solid. My only gripe with them is that I wish they had used decals instead of stenciled fonts for the "up" and "down"...all paddles I've seen on other cars, the "down" is always heavier / blotchier than the "up". I'm particular like that. Their customer service is top notch and they were able to send me a set that satisfied my ocd.
Singletrack!!! I can't believe you did your shift paddles yesterday. So did I! lol I bought some used Carbonio's from a forum member. Your assessment is spot on. Very hard to get to and VERY easy to strip these cheap a$$ screws. I really took my time and they look great. BTW.....found out the screws used to mount the rear exterior screens can be used to mount the shift paddles. jus sayin! lol
The Carbonio CF paddles look great. I have the factory Ferrari 430 Challenge paddles and while functional, are not CF and look rather plain.....
I've just ordered the Carbonio carbon fiber shift paddles. Carbonio Performance - Ferrari 430 Challenge Shift Paddles

Awesome! Just enjoying mine right now with a stop for lunch ; ) Having to retrain my brain because I don't need to shift my hands like I use to for shifting mid corner : )
Now I have also to retrain my brain, project completed! Funny; a few weeks ago I was with Maserati on the Varano race track in an driving course. There I learned to appreciate the larger shift paddles from my Masi Granturismo. Since I have made this experience I was no longer happy with the short Scud paddles. I know what you mean! I did some BMW schools and their paddles are short, but they move with the wheel, so you are never out of position. However, on the BMW, the paddles are way too close to the wheel, so you can shift by accident at times when making quick corrections - like on the skidpad for example. I think the Carbonio are just about perfect now IMHO.
Thank you for the kind words. I think our paddles are the best upgrade because it's actually a part you interact with every time you get behind the wheel.
Wow, this thread really has gone off the rails. Time to change the title to "Carbonio paddle shifters."
No tricks or snake oil here! I think there's just some products we enjoy so much that we have to tell everyone, I hope our Challenge paddles are one of those products. I can't think of another upgrade for the 430 that you just can't keep you hands off of.
