So I decide to take my car out on a nice day. 30 minutes in and the gearbox light or f1 light shines, no gears but she starts and that it. Won't shift into gear or anything. No cel either.
    Tow trucks on the way.
Any clues where to start. I'm 50 and have never been stranded! Oh well..

    Sucks dude!

Might need an SD3 on this one to get to the reason why the car won't let you put it into gear. Overheated clutch? Replace the switch behind the brake pedal... check F1 fluid level..?

sounds like low trans fluid bud. If you were on a slant the pump picked up fluid, on a flat its caveating. Check for leaks asap fix and refill.

I checked the fuses, checked the relay for the F1 and they're all good.
Checked the fluid and if anything there was too much so I took a bit out, not much though.
I just realised there is no pump noise when I open the door.
I'm guessing now it's going to be bad. That might just be my negative nature when it comes to Ferrari.
Not sure where to go to from here.
    Not a great day.

    Thanks for that link.
I also understand it's the same part as an Alfa Selespeed, which are half the price of one with Ferrari written on the box. It looks exactly the same.
I tested the contact and it seems to be getting 12 volts.
The decision now is to either take a punt and order the part from somewhere, or flat bed the car to Auckland and wear what will likely be a huge bill.

FYI the pump has been played with before, because one of the screws holding the thing together is different. Maybe someone rebuild the piece of junk pump at some point.

    Worth taking the punt?

If your pump is no longer running I would just order the $450.00 ebay pump.

I tend to keep my cars a long time, so I am always adding parts to the shelf. The worst that happens is you have an F1 pump on the shelf for when it does fail.

You may also want to get that heat sink Ricambi sells. I added that shortly after the CS moved in and it's 5 years down the road and when the door opens it takes 5 seconds to prime, which is a good sign that things are healthy.

I took the pump out before work this morning and ran a meter across the terminals.
    She's toast.
I dropped it to a mate who will have a look and see if he can put some new brushes in as an interim while I wait for the Alfa part to arrive. Which by the way is 1/3 the price for the identical part.
    When will Ferrari wake up.
But I'm hopeful the pump motor is the issue. I should know tonight.

That sucks man, but you are lucky to never have been stranded in 50 years! : )

Good job troubleshooting also...sounds like you will resolve it and save a ton of money. Well done.

Is yours the car up on trademe? Recognise the pics from your profile. Hope you sort it out asap. Beautiful car and low mileage too! Whoever buys it will be very lucky.

Graham did you have AA plus to get your car home, or put your hand in your pocket.

It's just like the MAF for a Porsche Turbo, you can buy the Bosch genuine part online, with the same Porsche part number for 20% of the Porsche price. Sorry now see the URL is already posted.

How much time does it take to change the pump ?

    Here you go.
51736315 is the genuine part number.
It's 195 pounds plus 30 shipping. To buy it here from Alfa is $1170NZ. Nuts.

Hand in pocket. Who needs AA when you own a Ferrari!
It was a good 60ks from home. He charged me $180 which I thought was really cheap.

This would be the easiest job I have ever done on my car.
Pull the RH side engine cover off, take off the heat shield, find the pump right there,
undo the two hex screws and 3 10mm bolts, unplug the connector and the motor comes away.
I'm not doing the pump, only the motor. See how it goes.

    993,

Time for an update. What's going on with your car? Are you aware of the 360 to 430 pump mod?

I sold it. That's what the update is.

It will be missed for sure, but having a car just die without any warning, on the side of the road just really got too me.
The people that drove past and honked there horns and were laughing at me was the last straw. I will be honest, it was embarrassing. Especially when the tow truck arrived.
