Hello all. Someone mentioned buying a 360 spider from Canada to get more for my $$$$. What's everyone's thoughts on this? I'm just a little nervous being from US and not being able to physically see the car and drive it. If I found a good deal from Canada I would ask the seller to bring it to a Ferrari dealer and pay for a ppi.

How much money do you anticipate saving by purchasing a car from Canada?

I almost got one from toronto ( did not work out)
Save .20 to .30 cents on the dollar.make sure the Vin starts with a 5 or else you will have to pay duty. Get the car delivered to the border and will not have to pay taxes.my problem ws that the dealer was small and he would have had to wait till Jan to get his taxes back and he did not want to do that.

The car was a 2005 f430 spyder with 34000 miles for $113500 canadian (minus the exchange rate of .29 cents) would have worked out to about 90000 us

The 5 denotes originally sold in us that's why you can bring it back without the taxes

Buying from Canada could be fine, buying without seeing it, driving it, etc. is the real issue here.

With the way the Canadian dollar has been lately I am VERY surprised that more people from the US aren't coming up here to buy cars. Get a PPI done, fly up and test drive it. There are 360's up here for 70k Canadian all over the place which translates to less than 55k US. You're still saving tonnes of money.

But what is cost to import one into the US, if the car was originally a Canadian car? Taxes, fees, etc? Are the savings worth it?

You pay 2.5% tax but gain >25% due to exchange rate. Can't beat that

You'll need to be a cash buyer as you can't finance on a car out of the country.

I agree! The good 360's that I have seen are in the $105-$110k range (3 pedal cars)

For a 430, a good car will set you back $130-$160 depending on the year etc. (more for a three pedal I believe ).

It's a no brainer for americans.. I know when the exchange rate is in favor of canada, I always pick up a few exotics even if I pay the 6.1% tax

That's cool that you could get it done through them. I tried with my credit union and they basically explained that the car would have to be located in the US otherwise they have no security. If I defaulted and ran off with the money, their lien means nothing in Canada. I spoke with a second credit union and was told the same.

I would own a 2009 Gallardo Spyder right now had they said yes. :)
