The 430 has a large increase in torque when the exhaust valves open, at about 4,000RPM in normal mode, lower in the sportier settings. Presumably this is a result of the engine mapping, caused by changes in fueling and ignition timing (together with cam timing?)

What I don't understand is what happens if you disconnect the vacuum tubes to the exhaust flaps, or install one of the systems that manually controls the opening of the flaps. Why doesn't this mess up the engine running around the engine speed when it would normally be in transition to the higher torque settings, because the exhaust flaps will not be doing what the map assumes they would be doing? Or does it?

It has an increase at that RPM level with or without the exhaust flaps. The exhaust flaps are mainly for sound, you won't feel any increase in butt HP. (in my opinion)
