Hi all New to the Forum and a rejuvenated enthusiast (not an owner). I had my first and only ride in a Ferrari way back in the late 80s, described here in another thread: I was flicking through some old Classic Car mags and stumbled across the advert for the car when it was being sold by the place the mechanic worked for. This is May 1990 and it was being sold by a company called Barnato Brooks which is a Jaguar and Aston Martin specialist based at the time near Market Deeping in Cambridgeshire. I think it was £55,000 at the time from memory. It's described as a 1979 model in Celeste blue with cream interior and with 2 owners and 41,000 miles on the clock. Most importantly, the reg looks to be: APG 38T or APG 58T (or in fact AFG 38T) - the picture is very small and I didn't take pics at the time. Basically - does anyone own this car? I'd love to find out it was still running and hadn't been broken for spares or become unused once the classic car boom was over... Thanks!
APG56T is/was a 400 Automatic in Celeste with cream interior. If that is the car then I don't know its current whereabouts. According to the DVLA vehicle enquiry website (www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk) it shows it as unlicensed since 2001. I think that means it still exists (i.e. has not been scrapped) but isn't on the road. Jonathan
Wow, thanks very much Jonathan. That has to be the car, looking at the pic thats got to be the reg. Begs the question: where the hell is it now?
My thoughts exactly. There's something about being 12 years old and being propelled down country lanes at over 120mph that sort of 'bonds' you with a car don't you think? I'd hate to think it ended up as spares or worse. It was far from mint back then...
the car i just aquired. ex Pete townsend/christe/calif owner deceased 4yrs,/now me. chop top tan interior, blue exterior. runs, drives. all things work!
Mitchell's latest addition to his fleet is indeed RHD, although sounds doubtful that it's "your" car: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229602 Don't give up!!!
This car (30271) is a different (and fuel injection) car. Originally Blu Ribot with cream interior. Sold new by London Ferrari dealers HR Owen. Spyder conversion by Autokraft. If you don't have copies of the original documents for your car (e.g. the original order etc.) and would like them then PM me and I can put you in contact with Tony Willis of Ferrari GB who personally owns all the archives of Maranello Concessionaires, the UK importer until 2003. Jonathan
If the DVLA have APG 56T as not taxed since 2001, is it possible that the owner changed the registration to a personal plate perhaps? Would that make it disappear from records? Also, would it show if the vehicle was declared as SORN (off road) at that time?
I'm pretty sure the old registration does not show if you were to try to look it up after switching plates (unless it had been switched to another car, of course). So, I believe it means that APG56T is the latest plate on that car. I think, although I am less sure, that it means the car is SORN and has been since 2001. Jonathan
i have papers on this car thru may 1986 to july 1996 registration tag # isGL49V i should take photos/and will v
It was a much more silvery blue, almost turquoise, as I remember. The German car is a very deep blue, unless it's just the pics?
Holy thread resurrection Batman! I'm a member over on PH, a car has appeared on the classics left to die/rotting thread and I didn't know what it was. Searched the plate and I reckon it is the same car! I felt compelled to bring this up for the OP. My apologies if the link is not permitted, page 448 if not Classics left to die/rotting pics - PistonHeads
You'd hope that someone would try and save it...provided it isn't lumbered with one of those owners who refuse to sell and just let it rot. Hoping the OP sees this!
Wow! I haven't logged in for a while but saw the Pistonheads post and arrived here to find 2 messages about the car. One pointing to this thread and one from a chap called Nicholas saying he owned the car in storage since 2001. That was a year ago so I guess things have changed... Happy to take it off anyone's hands though quite where I'd store it or what I'd do with it is another matter...
The owner wanted 14K for it when they last EBayed it. Cheap for a Ferrari but it looks like it's slowly disappearing into the earth and a Ferrari costs the same to restore whether it's a 400GT or a Daytona Spyder. Being a man on NHS wages it's above my means unless the owner wants to practically give it away. I messaged him via this forum but it bounced back...
I wrote an article about the 400 series a while back as well, if anyone is bored enough: Honey Is Funny: COTD 3: Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 / 400 / 412
Nice reading But You should know that the 400's speedo is actually very accurate. So 130mph you went.
I was hoping you'd see this Sumlin having just trawled through the PH for the first time in a few weeks.. Have you messaged the poster on there?
