I note in a recent thread, Jody Scheckter 1979 F1 World Champion owned a Ferrari 400 Automatic.

It is well documented Carroll Shelby had his personal early Cobra converted to Automatic.

Jack Brabham 1966 F1 World Champion chose a Honda NSX Automatic to run in the Targa Tasmania in the early 90s. He chose the Automatic because in his opinion it was more appropriate for an on road rally like the Targa.

It would be interesting to compile a list of any high profile drivers and motoring identities who chose an Automatic over a manual for their Ferrari or other road performance cars.

The 400A is constantly subject to discrimination - rather unfairly in my opinion - by the Ferrari and motoring fraternity.

I wonder if the toffee nosed group feel qualified to pass judgement on the select group of former 400A owners!

Perhaps we should list known celebrities ( non motoring ) who owned 400 Autos also.

To put everyones mind at ease -yes i have a 400A in my garage amongst several 5 speed V12 cars!

As a 400iA owner, I am enjoying this thread! I love mine.

I didn't know that Jagger and Wyman had 400s. Proof that autos are not for boring old farts.

Good on ya, Dave, I missed those in my quick scan, although of course 46153 (the current Ashman car!) of Lanny Wadkins pro-golfer/CBS commentator fame, is a 5 speed so I left it off the listing of automatics.

43385 and 45769 are both convertible conversions

30271 from my list of the Pete Townsend car is a convertible also.

52533 the George Hamilton car has (or had) a salvage title and was a flood car that apparently has been fixed up pretty well such that it sold for $35,200 at the 2008 Wheels and Keels auction in Houston

I am a subscriber to Classic & Sports Car Magazine which I think is the absolutely best rag for any enthusiast. It just so happens that in the September issue, a 365 GT4 2+2 is front and center in the cover as part of a comparison featuring a Maserati Indy and a Lamborghini Espada. Its a decent article and you can read it over at Ferrari 400 - the best source for all things these cars outside of this forum.

In any event, towards the back of this issue on the second page of the classifieds, Forza Motorsports advertised for sale Mick Jagger's 1983 Blue/blue 400i with 43K miles. I went to their website and although they have a long list of cars that have been sold, including other 400i's, Jagger's 44897 was nowhere to be found? Oh well - somebody must have snatched it up already as it showed being a 2 owner car.
