I am not sure I am calling the part by its correct name but I am looking for the piece that keeps the door from swinging shut when you want it to stay open. It is actually two pieces (or more inside door) with a pivot fixed to the door jam and then a piece held inside the door with two bolts. Is this pair of parts available anywhere (new)? It is likely fitted to other cars F or other. I think the weight of the 400 door is too much for the part over time.

Is the left and right hand pieces identical, just upside down when installed? I am sure I can find a used part from my usual suppliers, but the passenger side is likely less worn than the driver's side.

"Door check or stop" to most parts men.
My parts book shows "Arresto"(door stop) # 255.30.978.01, also I suspect a related part is # 255.30.962.01 "Tirante"(tie rod). Hopefully from the Fiat parts bin.

I'll check with International Auto Parts; they carry many Fiat and Alfa parts. Thanks

I checked with International Auto Parts today. they have one Alfa door stop but it is a rubber strap and is 90 degrees off from the 400 piece. I think all of the Alfa, Fiat and Lancia's imported in the US were much lighter cars and would have light weight doors.

Anyone in Europe know the source of the door stop for the 400?

I obtained a used one from one of my regular used suppliers. I asked for the passenger side assuming it would be less used. It is better than what I had but still weak holding the door.

I took mine out and... basically buggered around with it a bit. It's still weak, but better than it was. IIRC there's a rubber piece that perishes in the receiver part - I think I turned mine upside-down.

just the arm is a bit longer and has an other connection to the seat for door hinge. So for 400 the arm can be right or can be fabricated to the right dimension.

I was looking for these a couple of years back. I found the Ferrari ones but I think they were the same on Porsches of the same era.

The key is to measure the mounting bolts c-c. The length of the arm will only determine how far it opens; not a big deal. It would be great to get door stops for $40!

I got email about this thread and I said to myself, 'I don't remember subscribing to this.' Low and behold I was the originator in 2011!! Whatever I did back them it must have worked as this is no longer on my 'to do' list or I just got used to it as it is?

The Porsche part looks like the same concept but as Bruce said the dimensions are critical. If the length is longer one could always drill a new hole but getting the bolt center-line is key as Bruce states!

the door check 60921100 fits Mondial, 308/328, 512 but not our beloved 400's. I'll check the porsche part this weekend when I can get out to the garage.

The door check on a boxer (injected only - carb has no check) is the same as a testaroassa. Its a much better design than the 308 style so if it fit I would use one of those in my 400. My 400 checks are crap too.

Because the latches are used in mercedes cars and lambos and I imagine millions of other cars im sure the door checks are an off-the-shelf part.

Porsche part 91153195700 which fits every 911 does not fit the 400's. When I find my calipers I'll measure the 400 door stop and we can continue to scour the world for a substitute. I'll be at the Hyundai dealer next week!
