Car with an interesting history here: http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-400I-50807 Usual disclaimers on my part...
Hey could somebody help me by pointing out the, let's see what was the exact quote, "unique chrome trim"?
No mention of "clumsy Chrysler K car styling, cheapie Fiat dashboard switchgear"? Who is Greg Garrison?
To answer your question..Greg Garrison was very prolific television producer during the 1950s through at least the late 1980s..He probably owned more cars is his lifetime than most of the well known living collectors.. The 400i in this thread is but one example of the many cars that he custom ordered (and drove). His cars were not garage queens, as he was truly a car lover..He drove these cars on a daily basis to and from his beautiful horse ranch in Thousand Oaks/Lake Malibu to work in Burbank back in the day when it was still fun to drive the Ventura Freeway..I met him many times, and we even shot at his ranch a on location. He was very well loved and fondly remembered for his vast generousity, intelligence, and as one of the finest people to ever walk this planet. Also, he was so respected in the automotive community, that there is a certain prestige in owning or even having driven one of his machines. I am truly happy to have this opportunity to mention his name..he did not live in a vacuum, so you can quite probably "google" his name and find much more on him and his cars.I hope that this is of some help..Jacques.
Not to mention the cars he had stashed at his ranch in Montana. I belive a Super America was pulled out of there at one point.
I'm from Montana..Do you know where his ranch is located? Maybe near Livingston/Bozeman near Peter Fonda and Peckinpaw..That whole crew started the "landrush" to Montana..Thank you...Jacques.
Maybe I'm getting senile or just too damn old but, is Greg Garrison the guy that produced the Dean Martin show on TV a number of years back? Just wondering.................. Howard Musolf 1981 308gtsi 1982 400i Cabriolet 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo 2 damn many brass era cars.
S/N 50807 sold for $46,200 including buyer's premium at the 2007 Gooding auction in Pebble Beach. No mention of any service done since then and the engine compartment looks as though it hasn't seen much attention recently. Nice looking car with an unusual provenance and a unique configuration for a 400i.
Greg Garrison and dean Martin produced the "Dean Martin Show" on only a hand shake agreement for all those years.. They enjoyed the fact that they never had a written contract..Also, Greg even paid residuals to to Martin family, even though he was not legally obliged to do it, and that's huge. They were both wonderful men, and I feel blessed to have met them both.I met Dean on "Cannonball Run"...Jacques
Greg was on Flathead Lake in Montana. There were no cars stored there. only had a small two car garage on the property. all cars were in 1000 oaks at the ranch
Interesting..Kalispell, Montana is my home town. Part of my family has lived there long before the white man came there..I left in the 60's to seek my fortunes in So. Cal. and the wide, wide world. Thanks for the info...Jacques.
Good day All, Just documenting the cars... Sold Price is unknown, but the asking price was $39500 and so one may assume that the sale price was in this ballpark. Also, given a recent post by Schumi...that states the car is for sale in Oct 2012: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141805908&postcount=9 This would indicate that the sale was relatively recent. Just wanted to add that this 400i engine photo is a good example of a 400i that has had its fuel injection plumbing modified for US required "quasi-with Lambda" operation (frequency valve added into line running between the control pressure ports on the two WURs with the drain line from the frequency valve going to the drain port on one of the fuel distributors), but has been disabled (no wires connected to the frequency valve) -- bet many are like this
Good day All, Just adding the latest info referenced from another thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/365-gt4-2-2-400-412/556127-50807.html 50807 is offered for sale at $89500 USD Cheers, Sam
I agree. My first 412 was this same color and I really liked it, but I don't care for that black stripe on the sides at all.
That center hood vent looks offly large?!? This is what comes up when someone says..."beauty is in the eye of the beholder..." Is the current owner/seller a member of this forum? Its now on www.bringatrailer.com: http://bringatrailer.com/2017/07/10/watermelon-red-1984-ferrari-400i-5-speed-w-factory-upgrades/
This is from the description of the hood vents from post #17: "The hood scoop is two-and-a-half times larger than on other 400is which allowed Garrison to drive without worries to his home in Palm Springs or on long fast drives to his ranch in Montana."
