Anyone have one of the high speed/high torque starters from ferraristarters.com?
    400

If you do, would you be so kind as to record a video of what the starter sounds like on firing? Cell phone video is fine.

My current starter is dead, dead, dead from what I can tell...and I need to get the car up by the Jul 20th Ferrari event here in Seattle. I'd like to order, but I'm debating just rebuilding the current one...I just love its slow rotation sound. haha.

That's a short timeline you have.
Hopefully he will have all the parts to build one up for you. I ordered mine on June 8 & he let me know there would be a wait of two weeks on some parts. Last Monday he said he had all the parts together & will have it built by the end of the week. This is all I'm waiting on at the moment to get my car on the road so it's been a long wait.

    That sounds nice Theodore.

In fact, a topic on our forum was opened on the bell sound. After several reviews, it appears that this is not the starter makes noise but the flywheel is fine on automatic transmissions (plate + ring gear), the resonance taking place in the sheet.

Son de cloche au démarrage sur 400i Automatic

Sorry is in french but with google translate.......

We've installed many (7 or 8) of these and have been happy with all of them.

There is only the result that counts, if it works like this is perfect.

Brian, your best bet is: Gustafson Machine Gear Reduction Starters
Extremely fair pricing, top notch quality.

I installed the Gustufsen starter about two years ago. As difficult as the old one was to r&r, the newer/smaller starter was a breeze to install. PLEASE use all new cables. You still need to use the very stubby combo wrenches, though. The $500.00 is the best money you can spend on these cars. The after market value on the old Marelli starter after the rebuild, is about $1,000 to a restorer of Daytonas and the like. The car starts so fast and easy, that I swear that I could start it with my D Cell flashlight batteries. The hot-start heat soak syndrome still exists, but I believe that I have come up with a three- pronged solution. I'll keep you all posted on that one. Thank you so very much. "Good night, and good luck". Jq.

Hi All, I installed a hy- torque starter in our 412 about 4 years ago and have not looked back since...it works a "treat"..... It does have a " ring" to it when it disengages from the ring gear but does not seem to show any wear at any point....well worth doing, Marc
