Only the new potential buyer will gauge how badly he wants this particular car because between the replacement bumper (and perhaps its extension), lenses, front spoiler, grill, and labor to fix the mangled fender, the almost $50K asking price sounds steep. And, that's not taking into consideration any other pressing issues which inevitably accompany these 30 year + year old cars.

It wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination for the owner to have looked into the estimates and simply balked at the prices. Wishing the new owner lots of good luck, in light of the high asking price!

Wow!!! 4 months and a $30,000.00 increase in price! That is just __________ (feel free to fill in the blank), but seriously? What are they thinking?

    Good day Ross,

I would say no... well to qualify... not at these prices for cars with needs. Perhaps the sales strategy is to elevate the bar such that any offers will be higher than would normally be? Or perhaps allow for more headroom for a "discount"?

I would suspect that this car will sit for some time or be sold for substantially less.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Agreed, though it would seem more prudent to sell quickly at a reasonable price and move one's investment to something that turns over quickly. I sometimes find it hard to grasp a dealer's mentality.

About a year and a half later, the repairs appear to have been completed and yes, although we were all kidding back then, I reckon the seller must be laughing (!?!) now since he's actually somehow listed the car at $100,000!!!

Please note above from February 2015 where the asking price for this very same car was $49,000! Wow... I wonder how they derived at the appreciation value of this wrecked car to more than double in just 1.5 years - don't we all wish that were the case with all of our cars? Probably not, as some of us would either sell theirs or not drive them as often, but still - very optimistic, no?

Either way, it is the very same seller who pulled the trigger on the repairs since the background on pictures above and those after the repairs within the link appear to be similar. Maybe the seller got inspiration as to the stratospheric and immediate rise in value from this other convertible - a 1981 400 - chassis no. 35365 - where they too have been asking $100K:

This silver one was first discussed here:

But, I simply cannot imagine why either one of them haven't been snapped up already? ;)
