I had several hours' worth of taped auction coverage that aired last month and which I tend to save on my DVR whenever there's not much going on in "live" TV, so I had it playing in the background...

Imagine my incredible surprise when one of our cars was prominently displayed for sale!!! The reserve was removed at the $37,000 mark and the car sold for $38,500. Was I the only one who saw this?

Interesting and spectacular price, and with the dreadful 85 mph speedometer, no less!

Hah, the paint color is spectacular...the pinstripes are horrible. Some cars just do not belong with pinstripes--the 400 is one of them.

I had not put my finger on the fact that this car had been seen recently before. Having just re-read the link above, ironic how the seller from eBay had been so enthusiastic in selling it close to $60K, the potential buyer (with only 2 posts) who was trying to negotiate a purchase was apparently offering around $40K, and ultimately with auction fees, ended selling on the lower of the two figures!

Hope the new owner eventually joins this forum...

agree on the pin stripes; I did think it was that car we saw before; too few around not to have shown up sometime here :)

Respectable price. Especially at an auction not known for it's European lots, let alone the more obscure examples. Hagerty's value for a #1 example is $36,500. The seller should be pleased. The auction house should be pleased. The buyer still purchased an undervalued model.

This was the car I was looking at and had gotten the price down to $41400 or so. At $38k I probably would have gone for it but there was the comment about the first digit (10000 digit) not lined up right...looking like an odometer rollback. Still looking.

If that sale is reflective of the current market I wonder what a 5-speed brings now. Yikes!
