Reconditioning front turn signal lamps

While I have the signal lamps out I have inspected them and the reflective material is, politely put, in disrepair. Has anyone disassembled the lamps, reconditioned the reflectors and the inside of the housing and remounted the lenses without breaking them? It looks to be a slow and painstaking process but before I dive into another long term project, I should see what it entails. If there is a thread please direct me too it. I can't seem to get the right set of words to find this project and I'm certain many of us have gone thru it already. Thanks for your help in advance, as always, I have had very helpful responses about my "projects".
