Hello all The professionnal who sold me #38023 and with whom I am still in contact a has just purchased #24651 in Italy. It's a blu azzuro/tan LHD manual 400. He doesn't have any history about the car before 1989 and would like to learn as much as possible. When the car has changed hands in 1989 it was at that time registered under TO S 523800. According to the papers of the vehicle the car belonged to signora Rossanna Legni from that time. If anybody has got infos about the car or the lady... Thanks
Please check the Italian registration number; I think there is one digit to take off. The car (june/1978) should have been sold by a dealer in Modena with 61.933 km and has blue narrow insert in the tan interior.
I'll check asap about the digits.. June 78, correct. Dealer in Modena: recently or 1989? Thanks With all my sympathy mr Devil!! 😈
In Turin the registration numbers TO-Sxxxxx were issued between April 1978 and January 1979. The registration numbers TO-S2xxxx were issued mainly in the month of June 1978, while the numbers TO-S5xxxx were issued mainly in the later month of September. So I think that '5' is the digit to take off from the number that you've written and the plate could be TO-S23800. Tomorrow I'll go to the local DGM office to check my idea.

Sorry for the delay but you haven't mentioned the current plate MC211205.
Thanks a lot! I should have mentioned the last plate but the car finally belonged to a signore C... who bought it in 2012, supposed to be registered under number ROMA 20359 V since then...
Thanks again mr Devil! The actual owner is very happy. So FYI, the car changed hands in 2012 through Valerio T... A Bergamo dealer who sold it to the last Italian owner signore Ca... The car was 55000 at that time (dealer data) Signore Ca... Became a member of the EuropeanF400 club. The car is now in good hands in Italy for a mechanical checkup before starting a new life! Funny to see how it works, I am going to try it with my #38023!!
i've been trying to find out more about the early history of my car, #31725, '80 400i 5-speed... the earliest record is that it was shipped to Florida in 1986. is there any way to find out more about that period between 1980 and 1986? unfortunately i don't have any other data (license plate numbers, names etc.)...
Hello Vladimir What I have been told by someone who already did such research: google/linkedin/facebook every name or address you've got. Contact the last dealer, owner and then the previous one. Write and phone. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't... And try here, it worked for 24651, TheDevil new it all! Good luck
hi stéphane, thanks for the input, i've been doing fairly well tracking the US history that way, however, the european period is still shrouded in mystery so far... i'll try to summon the devil as well !
Ferrari (Classiche) will tell you where the car was first delivered, who the supplying dealer was, and possibly details of the first owner. They may charge you for this information however. Given there are no dealer plates in the engine bay, it may not be a French, German or Belgian delivery. It could be Italian - and so The Devil might be able to help you if you find the initial registration number (again Ferrari may well have it). David
sounds good, i'll try both the Euro400 club as well as Classiche, i only need a morsel to continue thanks for the pointers !
Everyone can get all the info of a vehicle registered in Italy with the payment of a small fee, if it is known almost the registration number (the "plate", current or past). But actually it is a matter of police to get the same info checking from the chassis number, because the technical info are in a governmental archive which isn't accessible to a citizen. In other words, from the registration number of a vehicle I can get the chassis number (and many other data) but from the chassis number I can't get the registration number (and the other data).

Hello Just adding some news about 24651. She is back on the road after a long stay in an Italian Ferrari workshop. A lot of work done on this car: engine heads, suspension, exhaust, new gaskets - and much more. Now for sale in Germany, here : https://www.classic-trader.com/uk/cars/listing/ferrari/400/400-gt/1978/68917 My favorite color combo + carbs and stick.. Don't know why I don't buy it, maybe something people call money.... as I already said, no interest in the sale. Just sympathy for the dealer

Wow, gorgeous car! What type of wheel is the car on? I was expecting to see some TRX tires, but it seems like it's wearing Pirellis of some sort. Cheers! Ruben
