Hi all, Any of You know the ratio of the 400GT steering box ? Is there a difference in ratio between the boxes in 400GT and 412 ? They have different part nr's but that can be other reasons. Maybe some of You have driven both cars and can give some feedback on this ? Who can deliver new internal ZF-parts for the box ? Thanks, Arvid
It seems all of the family has the same ratio - 1:15,7 - GTC4/GT4 2+2/400GT/400i/412. No use looking for a quicker steering inside the range... Besides ZF - who can deliver parts for these boxes ?
I looked for a long time last year and couldn't even find a schematic of the box- I'm still having issues with mine. I hope you have success!
Christian, I will do a search and send some emails using the number and info stamped on the box. I was hoping these boxes could be found in some german hi-end cars and not only in the Ferrari 365/400 family. I'll contact You if I find any useful details. A
My box reads : - ZF 8052 955 166 - Type 313719 - 0478 (I reckon this is production date) Anyone recognize these numbers from their cars ? Nothing comes up online when punching these numbers so I've sent some emails. Further digging reveals that series 8052 is a well used part. BMW E24/28 uses 8052 955 213 and it looks similar too.
Although the 412 has the same ratio steering - the box itself has a different part number 127969. This number again corresponds to steering box from General Ricambi with number FE9001. What is the difference in steering between the 400 and 412 ? Will the newer box fit a 400 ?
I found that no other cars used the same exterior box but interns must be somewhat common. What makes things even more difficult for us is that the Daytona owners will use 'our' boxes to add power steering.
Christian, I've sent emails to ZF asking very politely for a parts list with numbers. If they deliver we will have numbers to cross reference. It is quite likely they used the same internals in other applications.
ZF kindly sent me a complete description and part list for our steering box - 8052.955.166. Documents show Ferrari ordered this box for the 365 GTC4 chassis F101AC100 in 1970. Partslist is in english and some technical info is in german. It also contains a "how-to-rebuild" section but this is only in german. For those interested I'll be happy to send a copy via email.
GT Jones, have you looked at the 365GTC4 workshop manual? There are a couple of internal diagrams of the box and a description of how it works. I just saw this last night while I was looking up alignment specs.
Hello Arvid I am new to the forum. I have a Lancia 2000 hf , that appears to use ferrari parts. Some time ago you posted you had a parts diagram for the ZF 8025. I need to rebuild mine. Any information greatly appreciated. Many thanks
I have sent the ZF parts manual to Martin and his lovely 2000HF. Send me a PM with your email if anyone needs a copy.
