I was hoping someone here would happen to know what is going on with the front facia design of this early-80s 400i specimen? Notice how the bumper blends into the fenders, the curvature of the grill plate and the shape of the pop-up headlights. Is it a rare factory configuration or a hotchpotch job?

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like they basically filled in the turn signals, took the bumper off and put a filler strip in its place. With the scarcity of turn signal lenses we might be seeing this more often. I do like the look.

To me there is something missing - I don't like it. The front end is looking to long and prominent. I think the headlights are Mitsubishi 3000GT and since the car is imported from Japan it's very likely it was built there.

It's currently up for sale but I think it will be a hard sell.

Where are any of these mysterious (original) turn signal lenses you speak of? :)

Yes, but they have a pair of lenses only for $1,703US plus shipping as of today. I have no idea if they are OE or reproductions.
