    Well, here I sit, waiting....right in the path......400 in the garage...first we thought about leaving, the two of us plus two cats, now, based on others close by staying, we will stay put.
    House shuttered up, gen in garage, fuel nearby, I have been through 4 hurricanes in the last 30 years here, stood in the eye twice (amazing !), food and drink stocked up, shotgun handy.......wish me luck !

    We go through cyclones up here,some of which I've narrated through on here on this laptop with generator power.

    If you've a pure sine inverter genny,it should power all sorts of stuff.

    My little 1KVA powers a couple of 40/50 litre fridges(as long as I've colded them down first),my laptop,a couple of lights including my workshop 5 metre extension cable one AND my TV!

    I'm back online.....have left my house to join neighbors across street, will spend the night with friends and ride out the storm, then see if my house/garage is standing in the am.
    Wont crank up the gen until storm has passed and we get back to my house.
    I am actually hooked to my wifi still running, still powered up.

    Gary .....hoping to hit this thread on the downside of Matthew.

    Gary, do you know this guy?

    In Fort Lauderdale, about 200 miles south, six employees at a seven-bedroom Mediterranean-style mansion packed up for an evacuation fearing any storm surge could flood the property. The homeowners planned to move to another home they own in Palm Beach that's further from the water. Two Lamborghinis and a Ferrari had been placed inside the garage, but employee Mae White wasn't sure what they would do with a Rolls Royce, Mustang and other cars still parked in the driveway.

    This may be obvious but a lot of deaths happen every year....be sure the generator exhaust is vented outside!! A lot of people die every year this way.

    I am back online......as long as my power is on for my wifi.....
    It looks we dodged the bullet, raining sideways and wind blowing hard, radar shows Matthew stayed offshore far enough to not hit us with the 100+ mph winds, might still get 74 + wind, prob won't sleep much tonite.
    My house has been through cat 1 & 2 in prior storms, minor damage, I think the 4 of us will be ok, hope the boat, shed and garage come thru ok.

    We made it !!! Still have power, but it did flicker off & on 2 times last night.
    Still rainy and windy, still inside, have not been out yet, but we missed the worst of it.
    Cats are complaining, they want to go home....back soon.

    Just as well you stocked up on booze,you'll be able to have a 'relief' party,.....after you help the neighbours clean up,of course.

    That's great news, Gary! Glad that all the cats have to complain about is temporarily being displaced. Coulda been much worse. Hope damage is minimal.

    It was windy here for a short while last night, but thank God the way over-hyped paranoia did not affect this area at all.

    Well, it's over for us, house is fine, plants are leaning, limbs are broken, Ferrari was not injured at all.
    Next door neighbor lost all but 3 screen panels over the pool, 3 doors away lost a bunch of shingles, across and 1 over had his fence blown over...power flickered but never went off...spent the day cleaning up the yard and helping neighbors.
    We dodged a magnum bullet here, Matthew was 77 miles offshore instead of 15, we missed the 120 - 150 mph winds and got the 75 - 100 mph stuff instead. A lot of folks north of here are in worse shape than we are.
    Thanks to everyone for all the good vibes and concern, one big family here, it's great.
