    Hi all,
just wondering if anybody here has access to a 400 with the engine out or a bare chassis?
I would be prepared to paypal beer money for the effort,
as my car has had the engine mounts cut down to allow the chev to mount I need a template of the original mount side plates so I can fabricate before the v12 gets slotted back in and then weld in the correct location,
    cheers Russ...

I currently have access to two 400i's with engine out, one manual gearbox, one auto gearbox. These two are in France.

any chance you could get a side on picture of it and some dimensions please?
a cardboard template would be the best but pics with dimensions is obviously the easiest,
    Cheers Russ...

    ok Gents,
just to expand a bit I need a good side on pic of this part, this pis is good but I would prefer a more accurate face on not at an angle, which may be hard to do,
I also need size in mm of all the red lines please,
    cheers Russ,,,

    Hi,

I have added a few measurements to your picture but am missing the inside one. I will raise the hoist up & get this measurement tomorrow - also try & get a cardboard template. The template would make things a lot easier because the oval chassis & angled mount will make the mount hard to replicate otherwise. My mounts look a bit different on the outer edge to the one you have pictured as you can see in my pictures.

    Cheers,
    Al

sweet your a leg end Al, a template would be much better if its not too much trouble,
the pic is actually a 365 but looked similar and all I could find on the net,
I will either make a jig the same as the motor to set it up true or sit the motor in but the later is the least preferable as I will need to motor in and motor out to weld correctly them motor back in again

Ferrparts and Eurospares has parted out enough 400's im sure they would have some brackets you could have cut off a frame

Worth a call, beats cobbling something together if it can be had quickly and easily.

I wouldn't consider my fab skills to be cobbling,
mind you the factory mounts in Als pic look like they were done by my 8yo son haha so pretty sure I can make better looking ones than that,
you never know the original mounts may be sitting in the bottom of the pile of parts, but I didn't see them when I picked them up the other day,
I'm about 1500kms from them at the moment so just trying to get info while I'm away at work

So did the car come with the original engine long since knackered with the chev engine under the hood?

it came with the original engine on a pallet (chev removed)and any other part taken off to allow the chev install,
the original motor turns over and no oily exhaust ports so I plan on doing a leakdown and compression check, there no hole in the side of the block so hoping it wont take too much to fix, even if its heads they shouldn't be too bigger concern as long as they are not knackered completely,
I have a machinist mate who can make a lamington out of a **** sandwich so I'm confident we can sort it

heres some pics, you can see the mounts are moved back and are lower and flatter than the stock ones, also the front x member has been notched but has been boxed back in and is nicely done, all mods have been done to a high standard, the firewall has had an alloy panel made to allow clearance for the chev headers but this can stay as it looks almost factory to the untrained eye, same goes for the notching of the front x member,
    cheers Russ...
