The tires on our 400i are long expired.. it currently has 240/45ZR-415 Michelin TRX GT. I was going to replace them with the original size, 240/55-415, because it's original ;) and will correct the speedo.

Just wondering what the group thinks...

+1 on going back to the original 55 aspect ratio, they just look better proportioned than the 45's.

Mine had the 240/45 TRX on when I bought it.
I changed for the 240/55 immediately and don't regret it. The car really looks better with them. Of course, to each his own, but the "55" tires really fill the fender. They "fit" they look correct...
On top of that the car will be about 1 or 2 cm higher wich is real comfort and will help you not destroying your manifolds!

Same. My car came w/ the 45 series when bought; replaced w/ proper 55 series. Handles better, looks better.

Related question- my car currently has Pirelli P4000 215/70 ZR 15 tires of unknown age.
Should I replace with Pirelli or Michelin? All opinions appreciated!

215-70-15 is basically now a minivan size so its very hard to find a high speed rated tire.
I am currently using Yokohama Avids while I sort out the car. They're fine and one could argue better than what the car was designed for but not a great performer. Once my car is ready for regular use I'll go to a performance tire.
I had very worn avon's on another car once and really loved them. Great grip but low tread life although you will probably out-age any tire before you wear out on miles. Look for the 215-70r15--avon-cr6zz-road-race

Replaced the original TRX's we a new set of TRX 240/55VR415's from Longstone last spring after much thought about wheel spacers and other options to move to non-TRX sizing. Overall I'm happy with the decision. Car rides and handles much better on the new rubber. Longstone was easy to deal with.

    Hi

Thank you for the kind words.

You can get them off here 240/55VR415 Michelin TRX | Longstone Tyres

    Or here https://www.borrani.com/michelin-tyres/trx/240-55vr415-michelin-trx.html

I've just checked and the date code we have on the shelf today is 4216. so about 5 months old.

there is 61mm difference in diameter between the 45 profile tyres and correct 55% profile tyres. and that is in a diameter of 679mm (25.4mm = 1"). so that is 9% difference which is massive when it comes to speedo reading, gearing, fuel consumption, etc. Also in the UK we have these horrible speed bumps. designed by idiots to control idiots. I would suggest that extra inch and a bit clearance could save you some money in exhaust pipes.
