    Previous owner named James Bond? (don't sit in the passenger seat when the button is pushed) :D

    Maybe flash-to-pass or high/low beam, if he column switch is bad?
    Sort of a "manual" transmission kick-down (if you car is an Automatic)?

    Might just have to trace it.

    I had a button in a similar location on a UK 1973 Ford Escort which operated the windscreen washers! Quite fun to impress passengers by cleaning the windscreen without touching anything by hand...
