alright, 400/412 gurus, here's the question: if one wishes to drive a 412 Auto somewhat assertively, how does one use the shifter? For example, I'm guessing that there's no issue when accelerating, running the car up to redline in 1st, then up into 2nd, then up into D for Drive. But given the 6500rpm red-line of the 412, on a twisty mountain road, approaching a curve, can one pull the shifter DOWN down from D (Drive) to 2nd so long as one respects the redline and doesn't drop into 2d until revs are safe?

I downshift manually all of the time in my 400i Auto. I am not into red line RPM's; it is just not needed with all of the torque. Some years ago I did several weekend driving events with the Mid=Atl Region, "West VA High" and similar events. Ebert leads with his 308 Dino and it is quite quick driving. The only time I could not keep up with ANY of the 2-seaters was on an uphill hairpin. The rest of the time most were trying to keep up with me.
