Seat and steering wheel suggest the odometer rolled over.

Bidding is up to $42k! What am I missing about this car? No history listed, poorly repainted passenger side, no radio, no antenna, wrong wheels/tires, no side badges, mismatched front turn signals, incorrect rear view mirror, wrong exhaust, scruffy paint and leather, no tool kit, incomplete jack roll, wrong foot pedals, boot lock gone, and a ton of stuff photos can't show.
I am all for our cars appreciating, but this seems out of whack.

You should have a look at the European market Schumi, the less expensive 400 with a stick that I can see today is for sale for 67500€ (77000$)
I am not sure if they sell, but we see many 400s coming from USA here today. Maybe that's part of the explanation ...

Doesn't seem out of whack to me... being a 5 speed makes this a rare bird and nice ones seem to have been going for about twice what this one is at currently.

    Cheers!

    Good day Ruben,

I agree... the 5-speed is what typically commands the price premium.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Good day Stéphane,

For a number of years now I have also noticed that the European market seems to have much higher asking prices than on this side of the pond. The question is whether the actual selling price is close to the asking price. You will no doubt have a better knowledge of this than I, but I would suspect that yes the European selling price will be higher than the North American price.

Would it be economic to ship a US/North American car to Europe? Possibly, but I guess it would depend upon the US to Europe transport costs along with the European importation taxes (VAT + possibly Duty + any required regional conformance fees).

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Hello Sam,

I totally agree with you the only question is "is the selling price close to the asking one?"
I was thinking about using the work and reports you have done in the dedicated thread ("current European market prices") last year and try to see if the cars that were for sale at that time are still there today...
    I'll work on that tomorrow.

As for the economic interest to ship a car to Europe I am not sure it's worth the effort but I have to check that. Would say 5K for shipping, 7%taxes/VAT...

Let me seek for informations and I'll be back

    Cheers!

Ended - highest winning bid $51,110.00 plus sales tax. No Reserve price was noted, so presume it sold, Could not see if there are auction fees to add also. FYI.

As always the market determines value and clearly I am out-of-touch on the value of our cars. Many of us on here have really good, clean, known history cars that are maintained and are correct in every way. Would they command $70K+ these days?

If so, I need to call my insurance company pronto.

I would say yes, 5-speed cars are now $50,000-$80,000 cars. i

    And I sold my 5 speed 4 years ago for $28k! :(

I shouldn't complain as my depreciation over 15 years was zero but, still, not the best decision timing wise!

Well I was surprised you sold it that's for sure. I thought about buying your car at the time...but in the end I was hypnotized by the red interior of 50679.

I'm just "between Ferraris" right now and, depending on how my current plans work out, will be back before I'm too old to push in the clutch!

    Good day,

It looks like the Buyer was Gullwing Motors... or perhaps that have it consigned by the new owner? I say this, as it is now listed on their website for $67.500 USD:

    https://www.gullwingmotorcars.com/1981-ferrari-400i-c-3250.htm?searchtype=bymm&make=FERRARI&model=ALL&bodytype=ALL&

The pictures look to be the same as from auction list that Brian posted above.

For sake of adding documentation, here are some pictures and some info.

    Cheers,

    Sam
