Brilliant Exhaust company has developed headers that transform the 550 exhaust sound from a dull growl to a wide open high pitched scream. I think it sounds awesome.

Is it really the headers or no cats, no mid muffler, no aft mufflers? It seems very loud for a muffled 550.

FBB you make a good point. How exactly was the sound achieved? What would it sound like if only the headers were to be installed? As I stated prior, love the sound but its too loud.

On a 550, no precats, no problem. On a 575M, precats and a big pain in the neck.

from their website ????????????Brilliant exhaust?????? 458 599??????????????? the system is priced at 1365000 yen, about $13,415 US.

    about $13,415 US

the system consists of 3 parts, the headers, front pipe and center pipe(from their site) I'm assuming the front pipe is a straight pipe connected to the headers and the center pipe comes after.

The car in the video might have aftermarket mufflers but it is definitely equipped with some type of mufflers.

I think you need the 3 components because the headers(single outlet) would not be compatible with the OEM dual inlet cat pipe.

Looks like great workmanship, great sounding product but commercial? Perhaps a personal view, but I wonder how many people will put 15-20% of the car's value into an exhaust system....

I agree with you, I think the price should be around half what they have priced it at especially when you consider the current market value of the 550. From looking around their site, I think their pricing is based on the engine (number of cylinders) rather than the year or current value of the car.

WOW at that price I'm liking my existing system more and more. My exhaust is stock minus the Tubi mufflers and the factory center resonator delete.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen is loud.

I am guessing the heads could be made up for $4-5k, depending on metal. Agree with Terry though, what to do about precats?

Agree, an X pipe and a decent set of rear boxes will get you awesome sound for a third of the price. You won't need earplugs either.

Exhaust note doesn't mean all that much to me, at least not at this price.

Now, if somebody could come up with a way to make a 550 sound like the chains, valve train and Webers of an early Ferrari V12....

For way less than that price (~$9-10K), you can buy a complete carbon fiber interior from Ferrari for a 575M. Does not make her sound any better, but...

You can make a 550 or 575M as loud as you want with stock headers and cats, straight center pipes, and a very low restriction muffler. Novitecs and straight center pipes will wake the dead on a 550 or 575M. 90 mm tailpipes and you can see straight through the muffler looking down the center pipes. Without valves, nothing coming out of those outer pipes.

Do have to admit, I like the high pitched scream of that Maranello, though, and the Japanese seem to be the best at doing that, even if the driver was letting the passenger shift for him.

Right, FBB. I've learned that headers alone do not make the exhaust sound louder. Mufflers control how loud the exhaust note is. In our case, we have center resonators and rear mufflers which can be changed in various combinations to adjust the sound level.

Generally, headers have longer tubes than stock exhaust manifolds and deepen the pitch of the exhaust note. This is analogous to a wind instrument like a flute. The high notes are achieved by allowing air pulses to escape through holes closest to the mouth hole. The low notes are obtained by allowing air to escape through holes further down the body of the instrument.

Headers are made of stainless steel which will impart a "ring" to the exhaust note.

I'm curious to know what other components make up the Technical Garage Sasaki exhaust system. Does it include center straight pipes or X-pipes? What do the rear mufflers look like? Are they valved or not?

    Here's an article I found about this system added to a Mercedes-Benz S 600 W220:

This Mercedes-Benz S 600 W220 Sounds Like an F1 Car From the 1990s [Video] - Mercedes Silver Arrows

It looks like they used the same tunnel in those YouTube videos.
